I am looking to upgrade my stock steering wheel on my 1989 300E, to the newer, updated black leather wrapped steering wheel that came stock on the newer W124's (such as on a 1994 E320). If anyone has access to this spare part or knows where they can get one either new (other than dealer), or used please be kind and let me know. Much appreciated.....

From my understanding. the updated the wheel in 1992. My 92 300Ce has the same style wheel as on the 94+ Models.

That was partly the deciding factor in my car purchase. Of course besides the obvious, that was the clincher between me getting a 91 300Ce and the 92. hehe

I plan on upgrading mine to a wood/leather one sooner or later. The leather rim on my wheel is quite worn.

I have seen some wood and some leather wheels offered up on E-bay, but am not sure if they will fit your car or mine.

Aparently you can change the inside guts of the wheel but that may only apply if the wheel is the same style. Not sure though.

Have you tried some of the mercedes auto dismantlers? You would also have to get a different airbag. The wheel itself might be cheap, but the airbag might be expensive.

The black steering wheel on my 400E is fine and I'm selling it to a friend of mine who has a high mileage 300TE with a chunk of miles on. His wheel has a hole worn at the one o'clock position - down to the steel base from an itchy finger. So the swap includes his wheel for mine plus cash for the 'upgrade' so he can sell his car easier. The plan is to take his wheel and send it out to be recovered, but in the same color gray of my interior. This is something MB doesn't offer and I think would look good as the interior is a mix of black and gray anyway. Not a real pricey upgrade, but different.

Just a thought...
