123 Euro Diesel Interior and 5 Speed Transmission Installation

Tomorrow I’m stripping a Euro 123 diesel car that was brought into the USA as a diplomat’s personal vehicle of its interior and its 5 speed manual transmission setup. I only had a couple of minutes to check it out before I had to leave, I’m not certain of the year or the model other than it’s a N/A 4 cylinder possibly a 200D. It was running and driving until it was recently rear-ended. I’ll get a chance to drive it tomorrow morning.

The interior front manual adjusting seats, rear bench seat bottom and back, and the four door panels with manual windows will be available. The seats and door panels are covered with a synthetic cloth, solid black on the edges and a houndstooth or small checkered pattern in the center. The seats have black on both sides and the pattern in the center of the bottoms and backs. The door panels have black along the top and bottom edges and the pattern horizontal in the middle, the door pockets are black.

This would be a great opportunity for a 123 Euro fan to outfit a complete unique interior or to build themselves a complete Euro-Mobile; I’ll try to have some pictures tomorrow. If anyone is interested in either/both the interior and/or the tranny package please PM me. I’ll be at this most of the day tomorrow but will answer any inquires when I get home. I can only promise that I’ll offer these parts in the order of the inquiries I receive.

How much did it sell for? Did you ever get that mounting eye welded back on?

5 Speed tranny installation package sold

The package was listed on eBay with a $1200 Buy It Now option and it sold in about 90 minutes to the fourth person who viewed the auction. It was shipped via FedEx to Michigan 191 pounds total weight at a cost of $115 including insurance. The exhaust hanger mounting boss was not fixed by me before it was sold, so I don't know the solution the new owner used, I suggested that a simple offset bracket attached to the tranny case bolts would be a quick and elegant solution.

Under different circumstances it may have sold for even more, I will be offering another complete installation package in the next couple days so it will be interesting to find out! It should make a very nice Christmas present under the right person's tree! I've recently obtained a 717.402 5 speed tranny and the associated parts from a 126 chassis, arguably an even more rare variation. This package might very well be in even higher demand considering the number of 300SD cars and aficionados out there. I'll be pulling the parts and getting some pictures tomorrow if the rain lets up. Thanks for the interest and good luck.

please take photos of the clutch pedal and resevoir assemblies. That's probably more desirable than the 5-speed, since even a 4-speed conversion needs one. I know that W126 cars with 4-speeds exist, but I've not seen one.

Not only did they come in 4 speed manual, but I've seen 5 speed manuals in W126 as well.

126 Brake/Clutch Pedal Assembly

I certainly will take pictures as well as measurements, and I'll make note of any individual part's number. Luckily I've got a 123 brake/clutch pedal assembly in my treasure chest, so I'll be able to perform a complete side by side comparative analysis!

I assume when you mentioned "clutch pedal and reservoir assemblies" you actually meant "clutch pedal and master cylinder assemblies"? I'm fairly certain that this 126 pedal set is setup similar to the 123 version; the hydraulic fluid is fed via a cloth covered hose from the driver's side of the brake master cylinder reservoir to the clutch master?

If your right about "That's (pedal assembly) probably more desirable than the 5-speed" I'll be seriously looking into manufacturing some! I do think it’s fair to assume the 126 pedal assemblies are most rare.

The other question that I will endeavor to ascertain is whether the five speed shifter installed on this 126 chassis is the same as that used in a 123 installation. I sold the 123 package that I had but failed to make note of the part number before doing so; but again luckily, I have at the moment a 280TE with a 5 speed, it will just take removing the shifter console trim panel to get a look at the configuration. I suspect that the shifter will be the same but I could be surprised.

On a related note considering the rarity of these 5 speed manual transmission cars I am amazed that after never seeing one in almost 5 years I've found 2-123 cars and 2-126 cars in the last couple months, when it rains it pours!

Thats also been my experience. The pedal assy is rare. So are the flywheel and clutch!
Just before the owner of MB Garage died he had an opportunity to buy a 260E (W124) with a 5 speed trans in it, it had been rear ended. I bought some parts off it and I was thinking of putting that trans in my '87 300D. Well, within a month a tow truck operator called and asked him if he wanted a 126 chassis with a 5 speed in it. He paid next to nothing for it, it was a CHP tow away. The car stunk of cigarette smoke O/W it could have been fixed up, the engine was dead is all.
A few months later he died. Both cars suddenly disappeared! I think the estate manager sold them for scrap. Oh well.
