Vacuum element.....Does anyone have one of these??

I'm looking for a vacuum element for my '85 300D. I really only need the black plastic portion of this element. One of the three tabs that hold it in place broke off upon removal. Tried glue, but didn't hold. If you have one of these, please let me know. MB wants $76 for the whole element, but I just need the black half. Thanks

It has several different elements. Use the search function also because there are also other sources.

I got three of the vacuum pods for the SDL sitting right here.

The question is whether the black section from any one of them is identical to what I have.

If you take it apart and send me a couple of detailed photos of just the black section, I might be able to hook you up.

How do you remove vac element

Brian, how do you remove the vacuum element off the rear drivers side door? I'm trying to replace mine but I can't figure out how to remove the old one from the connecting rod> see pic...

Well, after another attempt, I successfully (I hope) glued (different glue this time) the little tab back on, installed it, and it held up. I'll have to see what it does after the element moves the flap a few times.

Brian Carlton---if it a single diaphragm element like the one I attached a pic of on my orginal post, AND it has the three little tabs that twist into the mounting bracket, it should be the same. If this glued element doesn't hold up, I will contact you again. Thanks

Riethoven---Thanks, but I was just trying to find a cheaper solution by maybe finding an old used one. I guess maybe I should have said something like that.

Thanks All

Nope........all three of these are the duals........they seem to be the ones that fail. That's why I need a good photo of the black section on the single to see if they might be identical.

Never had to remove an element for the doors........all my work has been on the climate control pods on the SD and the '87 SDL.

door element

tobybul:

The black plastic piece holding the connecting rod is actually two, inner and outer. Grasp the rod and pull up on that piece, and all should become clear. Replacements have a different locking mechanism.

Reinstalling, remember you may have to play around with the position of the connecting rod in the vac pod to ensure your locks work properly.

Brian, what is your secret? I have replaced 3 or 4 of these in the various models I have owned.

You can use them for the single diaphragm elements. But, do not purchase the dual diaphram elements for this repair. The replacement diaphragm element must go over the top of the existing element and it's travel will be a fraction of the original. The system will never work properly.

diaphragm

Just out of curiousity I went to the www.autoluxmbz.com website to look at it, and discovered at:
http://www.autoluxmbz.com/unidi.html
That there's an explanation of how to service the pots by just replacing the diaphragms. They sayin the catalogue that they are for 1973-80 cars, and my car is an '82, but in the article it mentions that the devices are the same through '84. Does anyone know about this? Otherwise I'll just get one and see if it works.

While were on the subject, would anyone have a good double element for the defroster flap? The one I have has the blue body and upside down L shaped actuator arm.
