GETRAG 5 Speed manual transmission - 126 installation package for sale!

This is a GETRAG 5 speed manual transmission 717.402 and the complete compliment of parts to install in a 126 sedan. Pedal set, shifter, drive shaft, etc. the only item lacking is the shifter surround trim wood panel, it’s included but it’s in very poor shape cracked and broken. This tranny is from an 85 280SE and has an electric speedometer pickup rather than a mechanical. The M110 flywheel is a couple pounds lighter than the one off a 240D. All the wear parts are included and appear to be in good condition and within specs. The slave cylinder is only a couple of years old and has very few miles on it (the car has been in storage for a couple years) the section of hard pipe from the clutch master cylinder to the second section flex hose/hard pipe appears to be a generic replacement rather than OEM, the second section attached to the slave appears to be OEM.

The entire system works very well, I drove the car about 15 miles up to highway speed and through town and it functions exactly as expected no issues no noises.

As mentioned earlier this system came out of a 126 chassis and as such has the unique clutch/brake pedal set for that chassis. If someone wanted to install this system in a 123 chassis I could exchange the 126 pedal set for a 123 set I have. The shifters are the same although different mounting holes are used and a different gasket underneath it would be needed for the 123 chassis. A driveshaft for a 123 would be an issue, this 126 shaft might be alterable but I do not know. A 123 automatic driveshaft either from a 4 or five cylinder might be a closer fit.

Ideally this system would be for a later SD. I’ll be cleaning up the parts and getting some better picture tomorrow, if your seriously interested please contact me via PM. The last 5 speed system I had sold for the price of a good rebuilt automatic tranny, so it isn’t cheap. A similar system weighed about 200 pounds well packed. I’ve offered it here first but if it doesn’t sell I’ll be eBaying in a couple days, I’ll respond to inquiries first come first served. Thanks and good luck.

"The M110 backplate is similar to the other straight 4's, 5's and 6's from the late 50s, through the early 80s EXCEPT the M186/M189 families. Anything released in the 80s, like the M102 will not work either. None of the v8s will match up to the bellhousing either. –CTH" I've included this from a a post that was deleted with the original thread, Thanks

Thank you, this transmission package has been sold!

5 speed ratios! 717.402 GETRAG

I'm posting this info in response to a question regarding the gear ratios' of this 5 speed transmission that I have been unable to find any official or unofficial documentation for. I decided that the only and best way to answer the question was to physically measure things. I made up a large diameter protractor dial and affixed it to the clutch driven plate, hot glued a couple of bamboo skerwer pointers in position and gave it a whirl. I used the paper clip to allow a repositionable starting point for the dial. A couple of times through each gear gave me the numbers and simple math gave me the ratios' for each gear.

R = 3.69/1
1 = 3.84/1
2 = 2.21/1
3 = 1.39/1
4 = 1/1
5 = .81/1 over drive
