Need parts for 190 5-speed conversion.
Hello,
I am looking for a source for all of the parts necessary for a Auto to 5-speed conversion for my 87 190D Turbo. I would like the 5-speed trans and all components(pedals, linkage, etc) from a 190E 2.3 up to Aug-89 Any leads will be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks, Ben

there was a whole car on ebay last week with a 5-speed. Check the parts car listing. He had two white 2.5 turbos and was north of Boston. -CTH

A few words of advice
Ben:
I have done this exact swap once, and I'm about to do it again. With the 190D 2.5T, putting a 5-speed in will make the car extremely "long legged" with the factory 2.65 ratio rearend. So much so that starts on uphill slopes become difficult. You may want to consider getting a different ratio rearend as well as the tranny, pedals, driveshaft, crossmember, shifter and rods, etc. Is there a problem with the auto trans in your 2.5T? Both of my auto trannies went out before 200K. The 5-speed is a great swap, but it is a lot of work if you have never done it before. Best bet is to find a complete car so you can set them side by side and then swap what you need from one to the other. Steve M. (Festus, MO, we are almost neighbors). PS - I just got all my 5-speed stuff out of a 190D that was in a junkyard in Belleville, IL. I paid $204 for everything.

Thanks for the advice.
Good to know about the rear end...
I havent spent a lot of time with the car yet but it seems to shift well. It is somehow dumping the transmission fluid at an alarming rate. After I got it home from St. Louis I had it parked for a month. When I tried to back it out of the garage, it wouldnt move without a bit of reving. I added a couple of quarts to bring it back to full and the car drove fine. When I pulled back into the driveway I could clearly see 2 trails of fluid from where I had pulled out of the driveway and down the street. I need to look into it further but I know if I keep the car I will eventually want a 5-speed anyway. The only problem is I dont have a lot of free time and the more I learn about what all is involved it might be a bigger undertaking than I can handle right now. (Any interest in a little side work?? Ben

First things first
The first thing to check out is why your tranny is leaking fluid. If you get lucky, it might be something as simple as a cooler line or pan gasket.

I'll definitely check...
I will check into it further, but even if it is an easy fix, I want to put a 5-speed in it anyway. A manual 190D has always been a car of interest for me and the turbo makes it even better.
I am not short of transportation at the moment and I really prefer driving manuals. If I decide I don't have the time for this project then I will probably keep the auto in it and sell it after I fix (hopefully) the trans leak, the IP delivery seals, and the subframe mounts.

If you decide to sell....
Ben:
If you decide to sell the car, please let me know. As you can see from my signature, I have an interest in W201 Benzes, and the '87 190D 2.5T is the best of the bunch. SteveM.
