Unfortunately, his m.o. is to PM or email folks who post WTB threads in online forums. He hits them all... Mercedes, BMW, Nissan, you name it. He's hitting them. I am doing what I can to call him on it all, but it'll be an ongoing project. I'm in the process of filing criminal complaints with his local authorities now, too, to establish documentation of all his acts.

It's hard to ban someone by their IP address. Most individual IP addresses are assigned temporarily while that user is logged into the internet via dialup or until their cable or DSL router resets. On servers I administer I've written scripts that scan for bogus behavior and alert the moderators whenever something comes up. But it is still up to a human to do the hard work.

Other stuff like intercepting script kiddies is trivial, and those IP addresses get blocked automatically for 1 week. I also subscribe to a couple lists that keep track of spam friendly ISPs and server farms - all of their IPs are bocked entirely.

Hey thanks for the tip on Bimmerforums. I have been looking for a place similar to this one for my 528e!

Getting back to the purpose of this thread, if anybody responded to the first post as he did I would really question both the guys identity and sanity. Cursing forum members out is a GREAT way to build a customer/vendor relationship!

Any time somebody cannot respond civilly to a post makes me want to go out and do business with him. Luckily this guy is such a nut that he exposed himself immediately. Imagine if he had just responded with a "No I am not this John Candy person and I have never even heard of the guy" He could have scammed many more people here before he was found out.

All in all a good job was done by cscmc1, TX76513, and our great moderator Bill Wood.

Keep vigilant as I know this guy will be back!

"John Candy" almost had me for over $100 - good thing I was slow in responding, and he didn't respond to my questions about the item.
The fact that he did try to scam me, irritates me, and I hope he gets diarrhea so vile and vicious, that even the cockroaches leave his abode.

I did a public title search and I know where he lives. The name is half wrong but he does own a home.

He tried scamming me for a $350 transmission which sounded too good to be true. Fortunately like Larry he was slow in responding and VERY vague so I passed it up.
