300SD, $2,000. Any Takers?
I'm going to relist my '80 300SD because with the huge bill from the 6.9 transmission rebuild looming overhead, I could use the extra money.
I bought this SD in 1997 and have spent over $16,000 (yes, thousand) in redoing it mechanically. You name it, it's been replaced on this car. Suspension, brakes, climate control, cooling system, vacuum system, etc...etc....I have every receipt since I bought the car. It has served me very well but I recently bought a 1970 280SE to replace it with (the older the better for me!). The body has rust, mainly in the rockers and rear quarters but is otherwise good. The floors do not have any rust in them. The car is Milan Brown with Bamboo MB-Tex which is in absolutely perfect condition throughout. The A/C works great (whole climate control system has been redone) and the tires are one year old Bridgestone Turanza H Revos. Exhaust is fine, as are the brakes (new master cyl, calipers, hoses, etc..). All fluids have been changed according to MB maintenance intervals and the drivetrain is strong. I also put a new ORIGINAL MB rediator in last summer as well as a water pump (MB rebuilt) and new glow plugs and drive belts. Since the body has rusted, it really is nothing more than a daily driver/winter car, but I just drove it to New York and Philadelphia and it ran beautifully the entire way. Anyhow, I'd like to get $2,000 but will negotiate a LITTLE BIT. I just need the room and the extra cash! E-mail if interested. Car is in Cleveland, Ohio, mileage is 197,200.

1980 300sd
is this a turbo model? I just sold my 1983 300d. How does this compare to that car in terms of acceleration and mpg? Also, I have limited driveway space, so I need to know if it is much longer/wider. Finally, how bad is the rust (cosmetic/structural)?

Hi Aaron,
Is the car still available? Do you have any pictures? (especially of the rust areas) Thanks, Ray 1980 300SD 193,000 |

Sorry guys, TXBill is buying it. I'm sure it'll be happy to get out of Cleveland winters!

LOL, yeah it was cool! Two vintage diesels tearing up the highway! Just for kicks, I nailed it a couple times (this was in my '83 300D) and sure enough, Bill had that 240 wrung out and was right behind me until I got off at my exit!
By the way, to any of you who are confused about my whereabouts, I do still work for Precision Motorcars in Cincinnati but have my side business (which will soon develop into my main business in the next couple of years) in Cleveland. I go to Cinci during the week and come back to Cleveland on the weekends. I'm gonna miss having a diesel to make the commute in, but so far my 280SE has been doing great!
