'83 300TD engine FS

Hey folks,

I am in Bozeman, Montana and have finally made the decision to part out my '84 300D, which had seen too many Maine winters in its youth.

The gem of this car is its engine. About two years ago I put in an engine from an '83 300TD that had ~ 150k miles on it. It now has ~ 170k.

The engine has been incredible. Very powerful... I'll often look down and be surprised to find myself doing 85-90mph on the freeway.

I am in the process of parting this car out and haven't removed the engine yet. The latest hiccup that led me to decide to abandon this car for another was the failure of my tranny.

I am asking $1200 OBO for the engine (with turbo and all other appendages... cruise and A/C don't work) and am willing to sell it for $1000 to someone from this forum. You can e-mail me at vaughanwoodruff (at) gmail.com or call at 406.582.5811.

V

an '83 300TD is a wagon. Is this a wagon engine? I know a forum member needing a wagon engine, but if this is just incorrectly labeled a TD for turbo diesel then that won't help him.

How could the leveler pump remain on the engine if its put into a car without the leveling system. Doesn't that mean the pump would be run dry as it'd not be connected to a leveling system? Wouldn't that cause damage to the pump?

The engine doesn't have any noticable smoke or blowby... runs as well as any 300 engine I've had or seen.

When I replaced the engine, I asked anyone who I knew who knew anything about these engines, including the Mercedes Shop forums. To be conservative, I initially pulled the key that engages the pump, but the consensus of those who spoke up was that the only thing needed doing was to put the key back in and plug the holes, which I did. If need be, I can test the pump with some fluid to see that it still works.

jt20,

Sorry, they're not available... I do have a bunch of good quality exterior and interior trim pieces available, though.
