F/S 2.47 W126 Rear

I have a 2.47 rear end from a 420SEL that I was going to put on my 300SD. I never got around to it and now that I am driving the 300SDL I do not need it.

I paid $120 for it.

Anybody interested?

It is in a crate, but is heavy and will cost probably $50-$70 to ship.

Do these actually fit right into a 300SD? Or is anything else needed, like spacers? I read that the input shaft needs to be swapped, thats not big deal, but is anything else involved?

What year was the 420? Later model diff's have a different style mounting setup....and won't work with a 300SD....

Some pictures would be good....I might be interested. I will be doing a considerable amount of freeway driving this summer and lower rev's would be so nice....

2.47 into a 3.07?

Yes! I too would like to know more about this swap...does the 2.47 fit into the same spot as the 3.07? or are there "tricks" required? I sure like the idea of cruiseability improvement (noise/mpg too!) If someone can clear it up for me that would be great! thanks for the sharing as I am new to these fine rigs! ya vol!

The diff will not fit the '83.

I don't believe the 420 or the 450 was offered in the years between '81 and '85. You'd be looking for a 380 or a 500. Either of those gassers would have the diff.

380SE was not made past '85 in US, it was 84-85 only. Being that, you probably found a 300SE which was available starting in 1988.

Couldn't have been the 300SE because it had a much shorter diff...........something like 3.46 or so........to keep the revs up on the small engine.
