Wanted: W123 Tach

I want to buy a W123 tach from a gas model car. It needs to have a redline of 6500 RPM and a silver cap on the needle. If you have one please PM me. Thanks

I've got a whole instrument cluster from a W123 diesel in great shape. Don't think that'll solve your problem, but it might solve someone else's...

Don't waste your time buying a tach for a Diesel; it won't work. I tried it once for my 280E.

You need a tach from a 6 cylinder car w/2 leads - red for hot & green to the negative side of the coil. If there were such thing as a 6 cylinder W123 Diesel, you could use its tach, but then you would need to wire up a tach amp, using the speed sensor from the engine. This in turn would would render your diagnostic plug inop as you would need this plug for connecting the tach amp. Believe me, it's not worth it.

I found exactly what you are looking for on ebay. You might also try the German, UK, and Austalian ebay sites for your search. Be patient; the 280 tach w/silver centre is rare.

280EZrider, what year diesel tach did you try? The 1984 and 85 tach will not work due to the fact that they run off of a signal from the tranny. The early diesel tachs pre-1983 have 2 terminals on the back(TD and +). The 84 and 85 tach have 3 terminals(W G +). I think as long as I get a diesel tach that has the TD and the + terminals it should work.

I know another guy(fratboy from BW) that used a 1983 diesel tach in his 280E, and it worked using a power line and a line from the coil.
