Wow, Chad, that's nice. But it would make my current center console look like crap
I'll be watching for the one-piece version as well.

Prior to finishing the cup holder, I had my wife test drive it for a few days. The black inserts are 3" by 1.5" deep. They snugly hold a soda can without a coozy and they hold the bottom of most coffee travel mugs (all the ones we have fit). I gave it an "extreme" test as well which it passed beautifully. (A rigorous shaking with cups on board)

The next deepest cup insert is too deep for the console dimensions. If you really want the hole deeper, the bottom of the insert could be cut off. I can also get inserts that will be large enough for a can with coozy (3.75"), but the bottom will have to be cut off on those since they're too deep as well. It will still have the nice finished appearance for the edge of the hole, but you'll be able to see the bottom of the console tray.

The inserts are a softer plastic so they will cut easily and the cut edge could be cleaned up with a little sand paper.

Please let me know if I can help.
In a perfect world, I'd like to be able to keep the consoles to verify a correct fit whenever I get an order.

Are you guys willing to part with these for good?

Please let me know what you want for them.

Chad;

Truly great work, I'd love one for my 1980 300tdt wagon, just let me know how to get you payment for it

(I wouldn't mind a one piece either if you've made progress, but just getting a cupholder will make my wife so happy. It's literally her only complaint about the car.)

They look great!
Count me in for two: one for an 82 300SD and one for an 82 240D!

So far it seems the 1-piece design is in much higher demand than the original...maybe you should make that first?

I think another great cnosole-related item would be a power outlet conversion piece for replacing the ashtray component. I don't typically allow beverages in my cars, but I have a ton of electrical items that need places to plug them in.

Bodhibenz did something like this in her car. I thought about attempting it, but I just have too much else to do right now.

Thanks.

UPDATE:

I'm going to be able to put some larger blocks of time in on these over the next week and hope to have the first batch of cup holders ready for shipping in 2-3 weeks.

I know this is taking forever, but I'm a SAHD first and a woodworker after my other responsibilities are taken care of. The cold weather is also making things move slower.

I'll update again when they're ready and I'll also send PM's to everyone who ordered one.

Are these the small ones, or did you get a mock up of a long one?

Still the small ones. I plan to start working on the long version between the finish coats on the short version.

I'll post a pic of a finished long version once it's complete and confirm who wants one at that time.

I'd love one but I would have to find another place to put my carphone first! Great job though! I lightened the wood in my car when I refinished it though. Could it come unfinished? I stained my Zebrano Red Mahogany!

Chad the cup holder is assume! I need a full console one if you start making them as my console wood is cracking around the right mirror control and speaker balance control!
