Jim- how's the semi-flat black paint on the grill?
I'm thinking this would look nice on my 360TE AMG. Can you post a picture? Thanks, :-) neil |

I think the black grill looks sweet, especially on an all black MB. I used Krylon and it is holding up well save for a few chips in the paint due to New England roads. try it...if you don't like it the grey plastic mesh can be had for about 20$ at the dealer. I cannot scan photos yet. sorry

Neil:
Click on 300E in my sig - I have a front view of the matte black grill. When/if you paint it, do consider using the strips from a 98C class instead. they install like the strips that came with the car instead of with the plastic clips MB uses on the 300E replacement strips. I just ordered them for mine, no pics yet on the matte grill, but there are some at the link below on the gray grill. Replacing W124 Grill

John- those look great. Do you have MB part number for the "C-class" chrome grill strips that you can post?
Also, how did everyone "clean" and "prime" the front grill before painting? Thanks, :-) neil |

The strips are # 202 888 02 85, 202 grill trim, horizontal, 4 strips per pack, about $12 if I recall. To do a 124, 2 packs would be needed, leaving 2 extra strips for rock dings. One thing I have been thinking about is taking the new strips down to an anodizing shop and having them hard anodized gun-metal black. There are shops around that do that, but I haven't found out prices yet. I will probably have to do new wheels if I do that, an all black grill would look out of place with the stock 15 hole wheels.
I didn't do the painting myself, I can't deal with paint fumes. My local shop did the grill for me for free, others have said about $30. My shop prepped the grill, (?) sprayed it with matte black, and topped it with a matte clearcoat. They said the paint was optimized for front ends and front bumpers. The only paint I did myself was the hood catch. Someone suggested using Kiwi Scuff Cover. It blends in pretty well, and has lasted a year so far.
