The center dash wood trim that had fallen off and was waiting for the Glue Lady disappeared mysteriously after a car wash.
So now I'm driving around in an '85 300D feeling sort of tacky: luxury without the trim! Anybody have one? Junkyard? Other suggestions? TIA ------------------ Neil Wigley San Diego '85 300D 169K |

wigley,
I'm pretty sure I have one at home, but I don't remember if it's from a 240D or 300D. The 240D has a center a/c outlet slider slot cut into it. Every 300D I've had is a straight piece of wood with no slot. Pleas confirm that yours doesn't have a slot. I'll try to remember to look tonight. Larry, it's a 1985 300D. Since I never had the piece of wood in question (the P.O. lost it), I can't be sure that it had no holes in it. But all the drawings in the owners manual indicate that there are no holes. Additionally, the AC works just fine.
Ironically, in the dash behind that missing wood piece, there are indeed slots as if somebody were planning some kind of sliding control. Let's discuss this offline, <wigley@san.rr.com>. TIA, Neil ------------------ Neil Wigley San Diego '85 300D 169K |

'Got "new" wood for my 81 300D from salvage yard. Dash behind the wood has slot for 240D; 300D wood has no slot. My new wood is alsop slightly warped outward at ends; 'haven't found good way to get it to stay on nice and straight/flat yet. Good luck!!

wigley,
Sorry, the one I have is for a 240D, it has a slot for the center vent control. Good luck, ------------------ Larry Bible '84 Euro 240D, 516K miles '88 300E 5 Speed '81 300D Daughter's Car Over 800,000 miles in Mercedes automobiles |

Neil,
Give a few salvage yards a call and then go out hunting. The 2nd 300 I purchased was missing all the trim...had been stolen at the dealership. Found perfect trim in a local U-Pull place. I'm SURE SanDiego has some of those. Be sure to notice if your car has a darker or lighter stain. Good luck! Robert ------------------ R Talley 84 300D-T |
