Thanks for all this info Jeremy.
It sure is a sign of an honest seller when he will, based on the info given, advise a potential purchaser that the problem is probably elsewhere.

Hi,

I have a 1988 W201 which has the Outside Temperature Display, but only half of the display is working. Would the displays you have work in the W201?

Thanks...

You need to check the part number on your display. If the part number is the same, mine will work. Mine have part number 124 542 01 05.

They are different, the 201 and 124 displays do not interchange (201 is front-mounted).

I think I'm gonna claim this one. Straight swap for an '87 300D, right?

Yes, it will fit an '87 300D, it fits mine. Might need to use the supplied 5-pin plug if the old display uses a four-pin plug but the changeover is easy, just swap pins in the plugs, no soldering needed. The wires are all the same, just the plug configuration changes and the new plug comes with the display.

PM received, email sent, awaiting PayPal action on Nate's end.

Third and last display SOLD to Crazy Nate. If I get more, I'll post a new thread. Thanks to all buyers, hope the displays work well for you.

One more! as of 5 February 2010

Update: Found another one, came out of a 1990 300E. As described in the OP, reads in Fahrenheit degrees, 5-pin plug included, price still $30 and free surface shipping in USA. Read the OP for picture and full details.

Where does the temperature sensor plug into? I follow the cable behind the license plate but I can never find the other end.

It's plugged into the rear of the cluster. Where the outside temperature is read.

I'm not sure about the newer ones. How are they different? Someone else might chime in.

The newer ones have an additional (5th) pin for speed input. It delays updating if you're moving slow or stopped to prevent hot air from the engine & road from reading artificially high.
