1977 450SEL --- Friends car on e-bay

My friend just bought a 1977 450SEL. It looks to be in really nice condition. The interior looks great as well as the body, trim, and glass. BUT... It has water/milkshake sludge in the engine. A cracked head I am assuming??? I don't know much about this model. The interior is a two-tone black/tan (maybe bamboo or palomino....darker than palomino I think, though). Anyway, was this normal to have a two-tone interior. The tires and wheels look really nice. He's not sure what to do with it, but has put it up as a parts car on e-bay. Here is a link to the e-bay ad with some pictures.

Just thought I would help him out by posting on here for him.

If you need anymore information...ask. I am visiting him in San Diego now, and have access to a computer to post pictures.

Do you think it's best to sell it like this, or should he part it out, or transplant an engine into it?

I tried running the vin for him on the russian site, but nothing comes up even when adding WDB to the 14 digit VIN which is 11602412081124 .

this has a 6 cyl m110 in it ~~~ a 450sel should have a V8

i would say somebody changed out the interior pieces on this too

Thanks a lot for the information. I am embarrassed to say that I didn't even realize that. I guess it isn't worth very much now for sure. He is only into it for a little amount of money, so maybe he should sell off the interior?

i'd run the vin to see what it really is first, a 450sel or a 280sel

Good point.

I tried to run the VIN for him on the russian site, but it doesn't come up. I listed the VIN on the 1st post if anyone has any information.

He took the AD off of e-bay until he can get some more information. He bought the thing for $200, so he is just looking to make a little money.

What do you mean by "It has water/milkshake sludge in the engine?" In the oil?

I've never seen an interior like that. And judging by the half-assed engine maintenance, I would guess some has been playing "interior decorator."

I love the two tone interior! I would actually like to do that to my car. I would also want to two tone the seats by removing the stitches at the seams and sewing the different colors together.
