WTB Stereo wiring harness & AMP - Power, Antenna & CD
I'd like to put my Becker 1492 and 6 CD changer in a non MB car. I need the AMP that powers 5th & 6th speakers, entire wiring harness for power, CD, antenna and speakers. The speaker wiring doesn't have to be complete to the doors because I'll be using the cars existing speaker wiring.
1492 & 1692 Stereo basically same unit used from model years 1994 thru 1998. Attachment shows cable connections in rear of stereo. It's my understanding wiring harness goes from stereo along center console to under driver's seat then under back seat to trunk. |

You are correct about the routing of the wiring harness. I just pulled a complete system out of a '94 E320 to transplant into my '87 300D. The CD changer (which I just received from an eBay seller) has its own cable and plugs into the top socket in your diagram. The other cable is for everything else. The two cables run side-by-side through the car from front to back. Note that the left-front-door speaker cable also contains a heavy red wire that is "hot always" and provides power to the CD changer. Whether you use the speaker wires or not, that red wire's gotta be connected to power.
The trunk-mounted amplifier is actually two amps mounted on a common frame. They bolt onto the trunk frame near the fuel door vacuum lock. If necessary, they can be removed from the frame and separately mounted. A '94-94 E-class car is your best bet for finding a matching wiring harness. It will require removing the seats; we managed without removing the front passenger seat but its easiest if you remove them all. That's sometimes hard to do in a junkyard with no power to move the seats so you can get at the bolts. Jeremy
