WTB: Engine hoist (feeler?)

Hi guys...I'll be taking out my OM617 in a couple months and I'm trying to accumulate all the necessary equipment. I'd like to buy a new hoist but the shipping on them are often more than the original price due to their weight. This is more of a "feeler" to see if anybody is willing to sell their hoist to me, used. I would also be willing to rent one, but might need it for a couple months so buying would be a better option.

Pick-up only in southern new england (CT, MA, RI) anywhere down to the Philadelphia area, must be able to lift the weight of an OM617 with transmission. Again, this is just a feeler in order for me to see my options. Final sale won't occur for a couple months, and I can't guarantee that I won't be able to find a local sale outside of the forum but prefer to do business with the fine people on here. Basically I'm saying...if you have an engine hoist takign up space in your garage and want to get rid of it, I might be interested.

Thanks! --TC

Anyone interested can post a reply or PM me, either will do.

Edit: also might be interested in other tools such as engine stands, cheap welders, etc.

Why not just get some new equipment from harbor freight? Their stuff is pretty cheap. 1,000 lb engine stand on sale for $45 right now.

I second going to HF, or you can try your local NAPA or AutoZoo (I got mine at the zoo)

If you are only going to use it a couple of times, I would rent a "break down" hoist, so called because it can be "broken down" for transport.

I have one that's way more heavy duty than a Harbor Freight one. I bought a new 4-ton hydraulic ram for it. I am near Wilkes-Barre, so it's not too far for you. $150. PM me if you're interested.

to the OP thats a good deal, beware the HF ones or the big red or torin ones from pepboys or autozone. The HF BR Torin ones are ok when alls well, but mine swung sideways a little bit and it bent one of the legs, now it is very unsteady under load so I only use it for light loads

Thanks for the replies! Don, I've responded via PM....

I'm trying to steer clear of the Harbor freight lifts, I have heard mixed reviews of them. I'm hoping to get something that will last quite a while and handle all sorts of engines--I'm only a 22 year old gearhead so this will definitely not be my last/only engine swap. I also enjoy doing business within this forum, I have run into very honest and generally just GOOD people on here who I would much rather have my money go to than a big-business hardware store.

Well, I can't speak for the crane, but the stand is good. I borrowed my neighbors crane.
