Still might be interested in the grille for the right price.
I will have the W124 wagon in my possession soon and will make a parts list.

I sent you a PM and email last night about possibly buying the whole car if you're interested in selling it whole.

Actually we talked extensively about it, and I was just about ready to buy it until he looked under the car and realized it's 4matic, which I'm unfortunately not interested in.

I agree, the interior is really nice, and the rest of the car looks really nice as well. Hopefully somebody who's interested in a 4matic can save it from being parted.

Ok, cool. Yes, I agree this one should be saved, but someone looking for clean interior parts.....Gold Mine!

So what is undesirable about the 4matic?

Looking for the power antenna assembly.

From what I've gathered on the boards here and on the net, the early 4matic systems were prone to some issues that resulted in high repair costs. They can be alright if maintained properly and fervently, but it's tough to know just how well the system itself was taken care of, so even on a clean well-maintained car it can be a gamble.

Besides that, for me personally AWD isn't something I need or really desire. I live in Wisconsin, and even though we got quite a lot of snow here over the first half of winter this year, I only needed 4WD once, and that was because our first snowstorm was a 14" overnight dump, so it was too deep for me to get through in my little 91 Accord. The road crews are so efficient at removing snow that it's rare to ever have to really drive on it, except in cases like our first blizzard, and even then the roads were clear and/or drivable by that evening. Plus, our terrain is either flat or lightly rolling, so I don't have to worry about steep grades and/or lots of tight curves, which is where good AWD systems really shine.

Anyway, it's definitely a nice car. Hopefully somebody who can use it is able to save it. The title issue doesn't even sound all that major and should be a fairly simple remedy.

My 4matic was very well maintained, still looked and drove like new when I sold it 5 years old with over 100,000 miles. I maintained it meticulously.

However, that maintenance included twice removing and re-sealing the transfer case, back then it was (only) $3500 each time.

Maintenance isn't the only issue.

Cool system, but not cheap to keep IMO.
