I think I might still have one of those. I'll check in the garage in the morning.

Questions
What does the coding resistor do? Can the coding resistor be replaced and will it upgrade the amp so that the amp will work on other models? I have some amps that have coding resistors and I have always wondered. thank you jim

Jim In my case (87 300td) still had the original amp that is no longer available that had no coding resistor only the 14 pins that the wire harness plugs into. The replacement amp which has the 14 pins + the place to plug the coding resistor in.The new amp applies to many models and the coding resistor is car specific,my guess would be that to reduce the number of different amps they had to build some smart engineer figured out that they could make one amp work for many cars by changing what is a relatively inexpensive part. When you replace the amp in a car that has the newer type amp you just use the coding resistor that was already in the car, however in my case i have an amp that has the correct p/n for my car that came from a gasoline car and my old amp was the type that did not use the coding resistor i do not have the correct one for the 124 with 603engine. I was not able to put part numbers in this post as i am not at home, but if you neeed them drop me a pm.
Adam I am sure hoping you have one, please let me know when you find out. TIA Don

Heh, I just found a gasser cruise exactly like yours. Did the dealer not have it?

I wonder if it can be taken apart... the manual has a table of resistance values but "46 32" is not on there.

Perhaps, but that's the coding plug on my '87 TD and it works well.

Well the hope was to mod the gasser one to match the desired values, but with the desired values unknown that's not possible.

I'd probably run with a gasser one and see how it goes, probably just a difference in throttle position delta / gain.
