where do i get the chassis number - I seem to remember a number like W202 028 is that sounding right. And yes, it does have a cable to it.( the window regulator)

Mercedes Chassis Number
Open the drivers door and look on the B Pillar and you will see 2 tags. On one is the Vin NUmber and date of manufacture etc and on the other tag it will have either 124 or 202 or 210... this number will be at the top of the second tag and will be horizontal... Jim

did you find regulator? I am replacing my door on a 99 c280 with a door from a 95 (i think) The wiring harness is different, so I need to swap motors (and speaker, and switches) If I can figure out how to remove it, you can have it.
