Why are these always damaged/destroyed in cars? I go to the junkyards and they are usually broken. Do owners break them trying to replace the bulbs?

sitting in the sun for 22-23 years plastic gets brittle and cracks to hell, It's just what it is. Mines busted too. Just spring for a new one at the dealer... it's better then trying to find a good condition used one which is damn near impossible.. i've been looking since I got my wagon..

I found one on Saturday, from a '95 E320 wagon. The local dealer said it will fit. Should be here by Wednesday.
Yes, they get broken changing the bulbs. The plastic gets very brittle and breaks easily.
