Lightbulb Wanted: 040 flat black paint.

I am trying to figure out if it is feasible to use a air bursh to touch-up paint for rock chips for the do it yourselfers.

I have a 2000 ML 320 flat black, clear coat, paint code 040.

I just need some paint to play around with. Not on my mercedes first, of course.

So if you have some old paint of the same color around or if you are planing to have some work done on your mercedes. Let me know perhaps you body shop could mix an extra paint or quart.

Because it is quite expensive to have the paint costome made. And mercedes only sell the paint stick.

I will pay for shipping or course, and let me know what you think is fare for the paint.

thanks,

ben

I think there is a place called tower paint that can match up any factory color based on the paint code.

I think they are www.towerpaint.com

Do a search on tower paint and you should find them..

Ben,

I have a little less than 1/2 a quart of Mercedes 040 black left over from me painting my lower mouldling on my (now wrecked) 400e.

The paint was purchased from TowerPaint. It is a Dupont Centari, Acrylic Enamel. The match is perfect. I touched up some rock chips and scratches with it as well and it was impossible to see the fix.

Email me at dsantos@cisco.com if you are interested. I'll even include the reducer needed for spray application.

Just FYI,

I don't think the USPS will ship flamable materials and UPS will charge a special handling fee. Make sure you label it properly though. It's big trouble if you ship something flamable (paint) and don't mark it properly...

Dennis,

Yeah, I had to pay a "special" rate when I purchased it from Tower. Funny that it only applies to certain forms/quantity of material.

I didn't have to pay any "special" charges when I purchased a spray can of paint from them, but in the bulk form, I did.

Thanks for the info.

-David
