Parts to sell but not sure for what year/model. Help?
Hello, very new here, but I have read the FAQ and read/accepted that without 10 posts, this *can* be deleted. I just wasn't sure exactly where to post this. Mods, feel free to move this if it doesn't belong here.
With that being said, I'm not selling anything. At least, not yet. My father-in-law passed away recently and he was MB mechanic for many years. There is an accumulation of parts left in the garage. Unfortunately, he was the only one who knew exactly what is in there and which cars they went to. My husband has a good idea of what the parts are, but not to which year/model of MB they go to. There are oil filters, fuel filters, engine belts, points, and gaskets, just to name some of the stuff that's there. There is also a brand new muffler that we think goes to a 230SL. What I'm looking for is some help. We'd like to sell as much of this as we can to help out my mother-in-law, but without knowing what we have, it's been difficult. Is there someone here on this forum that lives in Southern California (Rowland Heights) that can give us a hand in figuring some of it out or at least point us in the right direction? The only problem I see is that these parts aren't recent. Some of them could be over 20 years old, some older than that, so we realize that most of it may be a lost cause. |

Lost cause? Hardly. Although some parts like old belts are probably not worth selling, other parts might be no longer available, or otherwise useful to someone, so it could be well worth someone's time to sort through and figure it out so that they will have first pick. Your best bet is to find someone who will offer to take the entire lot, pay you for the pile, and sort it later.

You might try contacting a mercedes-specific dismantler, like Sun Valley. They might make an offer on a mass of parts.
One thing about Mercedes and other German car parts is that most of them have a factory part number on them. You can look the numbers up on the electronic parts catalog: http://epc.startekinfo.com/epc/welcome.jsp You have to provide a credit card number but the subscription is free. A lot of people here use this resource. |

Another way to find out what is what is most part numbers for MBZ stuff contains what Chassis it's for IE 124 XX xxx etc, it's one way to tell, and you can always type in the part numbers into all parts express or fastlane and it may tell you what year etc.

If you lived closer, I would come visit, take pics, and give you some estimates on the wholesale and retail value of the parts.
