1980 280SE Euro 4-Speed - are parts worth anything?

i have a customer who has a 1982 280SE which was imported from europe. it has a 4-speed manual gearbox and is carbureted, not fuel injected. it has relatively low miles, about 125K. the body is getting quite rusty and it may soon be time to condemn it. the outer rear pickup points for the front suspension have rust-through at the bottom and most of the fenders have rust. it drives well and the engine runs perfectly.

i am wondering if this is a worthy parts car. how much demand is there for the gearbox and/or engine? if you didn't have to pass smog it would be nice to have a factory carburetor, probably a lot simpler to run for many than the CIS injection.

Your title says its a 1980 but your post says 1982. If it's a W116 chassis car then I would be interested in a few things, like the pedal set, maybe the window regulators, etc.

sorry for the confusion about the model and year.

i believe to be more correct it's a 280S. from wikipedia the model should be W126.021. he says it's an '80 but that model should only be an '81.

I believe there was a guy on ebay trying to sell one for 100k a short while ago, maybe he'd be interested in another one!

On the door should be the manufacturing date. If it's 7/80 or later, it's the 81 model year. -CTH

I know someone that needs the shift rod linkage if you start to part it out.

Europe got the W126 a year before the USA.
1980 is correct for an early W126, if euro spec.
