Feeler: Rust-free Air Cleaners

Hello all,
I am about to refinish my air cleaner filter housing, sand-blasting it well, priming it and coating it with POR-15 (will never rust again), and I was wondering who would be interested on having the same type of work done on his/hers.

Here is an extreme case...

And here is a spotless one:

Anyone interested on having a shiny, durable air filter housing?
As soon as I do mine I will show the results.

Having done the job myself I think you'll find it difficult to get a really good finish with POR15 alone - partly because POR15 only seem to sell a gloss finish. KBS, however sell a single coat product that comes in a satin finish which is a bit closer to an original finish.

Eastwoods sell a product called under hood black that is meant to faithfully reproduce an original finish. I believe if you were to use that sort of top coat on top (or any other) on top of POR15 you need to use their tie coat primer.

Here is a general warning about POR15 products whilst on the tin they say they know what permanent means it does not specifically state that if you use that product the under surface will never rust again. Never is a very long time!

I have found out that SEM Rust Shield is every bit as good as POR-15 and leaves a semi-gloss finish very close to factory!
