He can't give me an accurate weight for shipping, so I can't buy it.

He said that him and 3 other guys carried it. Those would have be viking size men to carry 900+ lbs! I'd say more in the sub 400 lb range is realistic. I've moved similar sized VW emblems from the same era and while they were rather bulky they weren't as heavy as the first appeared. Why not guestimate Tyler? Logistics firms will weigh them anyhow and adjust the price accordingly so long as you're not drastically out. I've been 200 lbs out before and not penalized.

It might be safer to build a crate for shipping since it's weight alone can damage the sign should it shift or be handled improperly.

I have no idea how I could possibly weigh it. I've already stated that 3 guys moved the sign and that it couldn't be much if any more than 400lbs.

if you can get it on a truck with a known weight (stop at a truck stop) and put the sign in the back and have it weighed, Bobs your uncle you got it's weight. or you could call a crane company out with a scale, ask your state DOT office if they have portable scales (they may help)

Load it up and take it to your local dump site. Bring along your friends weigh your truck with and without the sign. My local dump charges $10 or a large double-double ;-)

they get something like a 75-80% discount.

I shipped some 300ce doors from florida to illinois for something like 25 dollars each... the person on the other end had a family member who worked for fed ex

My friend just called FedEx about shipping a guitar internationally. It went from $700 down to $274 after he kept asking "what else do you have" after each rate quote. The last one came from their "great rates" department, whatever that is. Might be available only to business accounts, as he is a used car dealer, but it's worth a call and a try!

Come on Tyler. With your painting connections, you will enjoy that for a long time, and if you ever sell, it will easily recoup your investment......
