w123 200D 300D Manual Transmission Kit Virginia

For sale ($400 plus shipping):
A (nearly) complete manual transmission kit for a W123 240D or 300D (or gasser). Is your automatic transmission showing end-of-life signs? Are you dreading the expense of transmission repair because you know it will exceed the value of your vehicle? This is the answer to your prayers. I have done three of these transplant jobs, and I was able to do each one in one weekend. A real mechanic should be able to do this job in a day. The 240D has a lot of room around it, making it easy to get to the transmission bolts and connections.

The 300D was never offered in the USA with a manual transmission, and this would be a good way to make yourself one. I believe you would need to modify the length of the drive shaft, and possibly the gear shift linkages.

These parts were originally installed on a gasser w123. I transplanted them to a 240D, which I drove until the rings went bad on the motor. I never had any trouble with this transmission.

Included:
4 speed Transmission
Transmission mount, bracket, and exhaust hanger.
Front half of the driveshaft
Flywheel with bolts
clutch plate
pressure plate
throwout bearing
clutch alignment tool
Brake and clutch pedal assembly.
Gearshift assembly with rubber boot.
Gearshift handle (functional, but foam rubber is shot)
Horizontal zebrawood panel with switches and rubber boot retainer (probably not necessary)
three shift control rods
All wiring harnesses (you won't need to do any soldering or crimping)
length of NEW braided flexible tubing to run from master cylinder to slave cylinder.
speedometer cable (you may be able to use the old one)
hydraulic tubing from clutch master to clutch slave cylinders.
Golfball size plastic plug to replace accelerator switch under accelerator pedal.
cruise control module bracket to relocate cruise control module to upper side of knee panel.
All bolts, nuts and hardware (with one exception noted below)

You will need:
pilot bearing (goes inside end of crankshaft)
new gearshift handle
slave cylinder (mounts to side of trans)
Transmission fluid (ATF Dextron type. 1.5 quarts I think)
6 new pressure plate bolts (somehow I lost these)
plastic/rubber bushings and clips for ends of shift control rods (I will include old ones, but they clearly need replacement)
rubber transmission mount (old one is included, but really soft)
Brake fluid

While you have things apart, you might want to replace or resurface:
Clutch,
flywheel (resurface)
throwout bearing

The work:
Disconnect the negative battery cable. Jack up the front end 10 to 12 inches, and block securely. Put a jack under the rear of the engine, so you can lower it safely. Disconnect the drive shaft from the trans. Remove the trans mount, Disconnect all cables, control rods, and hoses from transmission. Remove trans bolts. lower engine jack and wiggle the trans loose. The auto trans is heavy, but I was able to get it out with some care, without needing a transmission jack. Remove the pedal assembly. Remove the gearshift assembly. Install the manual pedal assembly: you will find a cable under the dash with a small jumper plug installed, discard the jumper plug and plug the cable into the switch behind the clutch pedal. This switch shuts off the cruise control when stepping on the clutch. There is a cable that runs from the old transmission, through the firewall to the left side of the hump to the right side of the driver's right foot. Unplug this cable and plug in the cable included in the kit. Route this cable under the carpet to near the gear shift assembly. This cable is for the reverse switch located on the gear shift assembly. Install the gearshift assembly, plugging in the other end of this cable when you do. Install the pilot bearing into the end of the crankshaft. Install the flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate. Install the slave master cylinder onto the transmission. Fill the transmission with ATF transmission fluid. Install the manual transmission. I found it was light enough to balance on my chest and bench press into position, holding it with my knees while putting in the first couple bolts. Make sure the transmission spline slides into the clutch before tightening everything up. Install the slave cylinder hydraulic tubing from the clutch master cylinder. You will need to make a hole in the firewall, but there should already be a knockout in the proper place. run the length of new braided tubing from the top of the slave master cylinder, through the firewall using an existing rubber grommet, to the brake master cylinder. you will find a little nipple at the back of the brake master cylinder. cut of the end of this nipple, and immediately plug the braided tubing onto that nipple before you loose much brake fluid. Dump a bucket of water behind the master cylinder to clean up the mess. (brake fluid is water soluble). Bleed the clutch hydraulics. Install the transmission mount, bracket, and exhaust hanger. Reconnect the driveshaft using the new (longer) driveshaft half included with the kit. Connect the three shift control rods. Caulk up the hole that originally had the cable from the transmission. You should be able to leave the starter connected electrically during this whole operation. Before you dispose of the old flywheel, carefully tap off the gear ring using a cold chisel and hammer, and keep it in case you need it some day; it should fit either flywheel.

I am sure I missed some details here, but this is most of it. There are other posts in the diesel forum about this job.

i am very interested in your transmission and would like to buy it, also i live in Maryland so i can pick it up instead of you shipping it plus i would like to look at it before i buy it if i may
