WTB W126 interior - Dallas, TX

Hey guys,

My 83 300SD needs a new/better interior. What isn't broken due to age is broken due to a PO pretending to be a MB mechanic. The current color is grey but since just about everything needs to be replaced, I don't care what color it is later. Matching would be preferred. I also need a cluster. It seems like the one I have is for a gasser; it reads 80MPH at 62 real MPH.

I don't have much money but if you can make me a deal, I would appreciate it.

Shipping an entire interior is probably too costly but if you are within a few hundred miles (weekend trip) of DFW, I could drive to you. If you are so inclined, I could drive the car and we could swap out stuff right there.

How much should an interior like that go for?

Rear door panels and a few other parts won't work from a long wheelbase SDL/SEL because yours is a short wheelbase SD. Try to get an interior from an 89-91 short wheelbase model - it will have the updated seats and door panels.

You may have to swap over wiring and relays for the power and heated seats (if yours is so equipped) but it shouldn't be a problem if you're changing the entire interior.

Yeah, he messaged me this morning and said most of it was gone.

That car didn't look bigger than my 83 300SD. It looked smaller. Maybe that is just the pictures fooling me. I'll keep my eyes peeled for an 89-91 SD model. Let me know if any of y'all find one.

How much should I offer for a good interior?

I found this one near me:
Mercedes W126 1983-1989 SEL Parting Out

It has cloth seats but I don't care too much as long as they are in good condition.

Swapping out an entire interior is a lot of work if done right. I'm finishing up one now, and both were gen2 cars, but one was early gen2 (1986), the other later gen2 (1990). There are differences. Even more differences to gen1. Things like dashes with airbags or not. Steering wheels with air bags or not. Telescoping steering wheels or not. Seats and door panels are different. Wiring for seats is different. It can all be moved over, but takes a good amount of time and energy and you need to take your time to not ruin things. Most don't know how to take off door panels with breaking the tabs. Swapping the headliner is a lot of work. I took the whole sunroof tray with it and swapped it over - multiple person job.

How much to offer? Hard to say. I paid $500 for most of an interior at a junkyard a few years ago, then found an entire car for $1000 that was wrecked, sold the drivetrain and used the interior.

As already stated, the short wheelbase cars and long wheel base cars (SDL, SEL) don't swap rear doors. Everything else should, front doors, dash all the same. Also be aware the door wood may be different depending on how many switches in the rear door.

Good luck on your project.
