Wanted: W116 Manual window regulators.
Hello All!
having some issues with my SD's windows. decided i want to ditch the electric windows, and switch to manual, its hot and having windows that wont go down is a bit of an issue. I ordered a pair of front manual regulators off amazon, Dorman part #s 740-414 and 740-415. they were marked as being compatable with my car. guess what. they aren't. they're w123 regulators. which i figured out after about an hour of staring at the drivers side, and trying to figure how on earth that was going to fit and work in there. so those are getting returned. in the meantime, my window is held up by duct tape (ugh) and i'm trying to locate at least a drivers side regulator to put in there. hopefully someone has one? I'm near Knoxville, TN now so if theres anyone close by, i'll come pick em up or i'll pay to have them shipped. don't have a ton of cash to spend on it, but if youve got one, we'll work something out, no windows is a major issue for me, as my a/c isnt working yet. (hoping the new expansion valve fits...) Thanks, Tom

I think the Dorman regulators will fit the rear. That's too bad about the fronts not working, but I figured they wouldn't. The parts guys need to figure out that just because a part fits one Mercedes 300 series, doesn't mean it fits all 300 series.
You can make the front windows manual, in a sense. If you pull away the window motor from regulator, it will allow you to push and pull the window up and down, unless the regulators are really warped. You can put small suction cups on the inside of the glass near the top so you have handles you can use to slide the window. There is a spring in the regulator that will keep enough tension on the window to keep it from falling down, but you should still be able to lower it easily. With that said, I still converted the power windows and sunroof in my W116 300SD to manual.
