WTB: 5 speed manual conversion kit for 190e 2.3-16 Cosworth

Hi Kids,

I'm new to this forum and have recently acquired an 87 Cossie but it came to me in automatic and I wish to convert it to manual dogleg. I have spotted a tranny but need the rest of the parts to complete the conversion. Anyone has the rest of the kit for sale by any chance? Driveshaft, flywheel, pedals, shift assembly, differential etc.

I'm located in San Francisco, CA but will travel to SoCal or pay for shipping if you have what I need.

Please holler if you got the parts or know of someone who does. I'm excited to be part of this forum.

Cheers,

Eamon

This is just an idea you can use the shifter from another W201 with manual transmission and it will work but won't be original. Drive shaft you can have one custom made

I heard the shifter wouldn't work because the pattern is different. It's not a question of originality.

How do I have a driveshaft custom made?

I used the shifter in the picture with an older transmission different gear pattern it works just have to use the shifting rods that came with the shifter. I took a longer drive shaft to local machine shop and he cut it to the size I needed and them weld it and them have it balance it in a different shop the cost was around $150.00

By shifting rod, do you mean the three pieces that connect the transmission to the shifter assembly (linkages I think they are called) or the three rods that are part of the shifter assembly themselves that the linkages attach to? If the latter, where do I find the rods that are part of the assembly for a 16 valve. If the former, where do I find those linkages? Can I buy them new from the dealer? Where do I get the part numbers?

As for the driveshaft, what is the length of a 16v driveshaft? I know a 8v driveshaft is longer than 16v so I could use a regular 190e driveshaft and have it cut but I need to know how long a 16v driveshaft is to cut the 8v to match. Anybody know or can measure?

As for the drive shaft you better ask at the 190rev you get a faster answer. And yes by shifting rods I mean linkages you can buy them new but they are expensive. Have you look at ebay? Maybe you can find the shifter there I brought mine from ebay Germany. I will try to find more information for you

I have been told that the manual 8v driveshaft can be used for a 16v by adjusting the length of the driveshaft in the front section. I'm not sure I understand how one can "adjust" the length without cutting and welding as you suggested. I hear the difference is only 3 centimeters which can be adjusted for.

As for the shifter linkages or rods as you call them, what is the difference between 8v and 16v? I called Mercedes Benz dealer to see if I can buy the rods new and they turned me away. I asked if there were any differences between the rods between 8v and 16v and they said they didn't know. Mercedes is facking useless when it comes to stuff like this.

At one time I had both transmission kits one for 8V and one for 16V the linkages or rods are different shape. There is no way to adjust the drive shaft there is a play and maybe you can use the one out off a 8V if the difference is only 3 CM you can use the DS from a 8V. The Mercedes dealer you called did not want help you try the classic center

I found this thread on Rev that makes bold claim. Can anyone confirm this?
