Transportation: Memphis, TN to Nashville, Murfreesboro,TN and Adolphus, KY

To ALL.

I'm planning my next parts trip. I've sold a set of wheels to a forum member in Murfreesboro, TN and I've bought some stuff in Adolphus, KY. I figure I will go up and back the same day. I have plenty of room to carry stuff toward Nashville and plenty of room to carry stuff back to Memphis.

Please post here your needs here. I'm able to deliver the set of blue seats I have, the palomino seat, wheels, tires, or anything else big that you may need.

If I don't respond to your post, please send me a PM.

February 8th

Tenative date set for February 8th. It looks like it's going to be a long day. Trip looks something like this:

Germantown, TN
to
Nashville, TN
to
Goodlettsville, TN
to
Adolphus, KY
to
Nancy, KY
to
Nashville, TN
to
Germantown, TN

Google map link won't paste correctly because PeachParts interprets to be an emote. Ha! Anyway, Google Maps says 729 miles, 11 hours, 34 minutes. I know it will be more because of all the diesel talk that will happen.

I've got extra wheels some with tires, two front blue seats, a #17 head and crank and injectors for an OM603, and maybe could get a hood or fender if anyone needs one.

Are any of those destinations near Blountville? There is a car (not an MB) that I'd like to have some "eyes on" if it's close to where you'll be. I'd certainly buy lunch, gas and beer for the help knowing if it's worth pursuing.

Blountville is about 175 miles east out of the way, east of Knoxville just outside of Kingsport

Postponed

My trip for this Saturday, February 8th, is being postponed. Trailer brake issues and weather concerns.

Very long, hard trip

My trip was a success; however, it wasn't without issues. \

I departed home on Saturday, 22nd at 5:18am. Stopped after about 15 minutes and checked chains and tires --- all seems okay. Drove another hour, stopped and checked chains and tires. Back, passenger tire on trailer (dual 3500lb axles) feels a little warm and looks a little low. Will stop in Jackson, TN to air up. Stop in Jackson, TN, and tire pressure is okay, maybe that tire is just going to look like that today. Drive on.

Two (2) miles before arriving at my destination in Adolphus, KY, my brake controller starts flashing SH --- of course, I've never seen this code on my seldon used brake controller and only had 2 more miles, so I kept driving. Upon arriving at my destination, I got out my brake controller documentation and learned a flashing SH indicated the brake controller had detected a short in the electrical trailer brake circuitry. Hmmm.....

Then I remember, I just had the plug replaced on the trailer, so maybe it's gone wrong. No big deal, just wiggle it some.....still flashing SH....walk around trailer. OH, my!!! The back, passenger wheel on the trailer is smoking HOT. There's smoke coming off of it.....and there's a lot of heat coming off of the wheel. I'm thinking the brakes locked up and overheated and are causing the short. I get my cardboard out of truck and climb under the trailer and sure enough the wires going into the wheel hub are melted.....plastic is dripping....found the short!

Then I look at the wheel again.....and it doesn't look right. The hub looks awkward. Time to jack up the trailer and take the wheel off. The wheel is very hot. I have thick leather work gloves with me......the wheel is so hot, I'm concerned the tire might explode, so I take it about 50 feet away from the trailer. One look at the hub and I'm furious Obviously, I have trailer hub bearings issue......I'm not going anywhere until I fix/repair this. Well, there are good people in the world. I text the guy who was suppose to meet me ..... and he came and opened his shop and assisted. Three hours later, I'm back on the road.....driving toward Nancy, KY, to deliver this car: 1979 240D 4speed manual Light Blue

Since I'm running 3+ hours behind, lunch in Nancy, KY, is out of the question. I'm 50 times more tired and greasy than I expected to be at this point. I drive on. While driving, I start thinking......should I have bought extra seals & bearings in case I run into another trailer hub issue? Should I stop and check the other wheels? I drive on. Five (5) miles before reaching my destination in Nancy, KY, I stop at a little corner grocery/gas station to stretch and check my trailer. Oh, my. I'm furious, again. The front, driver's side trailer wheel is akewed. Obviously, it has a hub/bearing issue now. Well, I drive on to my destination, not knowing what to do.

Meeting the purchaser was a real joy. We off loaded the 240D, 4 speed, and then discussed options about my trailer. Since I have family in Kentucky, we agreed I'd leave the trailer at his house and then I'd stop and fix it and pick it up on my next time through. I left to drive "home". After driving about 10minutes, I realize it's already 6:30pm and I'm dead tired. It doesn't make good (safe) sense for me to try to drive all the way back to Germantown, TN. It's about 5.5 hours. So, I stop and call O'Reilly Auto Parts in Somerset (10 miles away) and they are open until 10pm. I immediately change gears; drive to O'Reilly and purchase parts to repair trailer. Then, find a hotel and a place to eat. Thank goodness, I grabbed a change of clothes as I was leaving the house. A long, hot shower and I'm ready for a steak. I highly recommend Texas RoadHouse in Somerset --- although, as a rule, I'm not crazy about those peanut shells on the floor kind of places.

The next morning, it was back out to Nancy,KY, repaired the trailer with the assistance of a forum member and got back on the road. Arriving home last night at 8:30pm, my back hurts from bending over so much working on the hub/axle.

Another day, trip, and an adventure in the bag. What's next?
