Looking for radio related part for 1992 MB 400E

I am looking for a radio amp for a 1992 MB 400e. This is located in the trunk area, on the passenger side, above the battery. It is part number 001 820 96 89 90.

This is also posted in the audio section.

These are fairly easy to find in wrecking yards for cheap.

Becker can also repair amplifiers for around $120 last I talked to them.

Gerry will know better than I but in a 300E or 300D they use a 1432 stereo which was used 92-93 only. I am not sure if this is true of 400Es. I picked up all 3 audio units in the trunk for a 1432 at a junkyard last week for $29. Haven't had a chance to try them. If they don't work I'm going to go ahead and send it to Becker for a rebuild.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve contacted several bone yards by email and not got a reply yet.

How do I contact Becker for possible repair?

Becker Autosound Website

They're going to charge you an arm and a leg. Just go to a wrecking yard yourself and find a 1991-1993 E-class car, and get the amps from it.

Thanks for the link.

If I can find a bone yard that has the particular part number I plan to do that. So far, I’ve contacted ~ 20 or so MB bone yards and no hits. Yesterday I randomly contacted one on the east part of the USA that claims to be linked to 100 other yards. I hope to hear back from them next week.

I did come across this guy after reading your reference to repair: Radioman provides car audio radio repairs for Mercedes BOSE Lexus BMW Becker Alpine Honda Nissan Jaguar Porsche VW Toyota Audi Mazda Chrysler Ford Volvo in San Diego Sent an email inquiry.

I just now came across a 1994 E320 in a yard today that had both amplifiers. Unfortunately they are a different part number I believe than the ones for your earlier car. I will look that up, though. If they are the same I will go back this week and get them for you, if you'd like. I will sell them for my cost + shipping.

Yes, all 500E and 400E cars in the US through 1993 had the 1432 & amps. The 1994 and 1995 124s (all engines) used the Becker 1492 (or Alpine equivalent). I think they used a different amp, but I need to look this up.

I dunno if it matters but mine was originally sold in Canada.
