Parting out: 1992 300D 2.5 Turbo, Black/Mushroom Leather, Middle TN - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

Well my brother's '92 300D met the end of the road on New Years Day when he hit a buck on his way home from work. The Insurance company considered the damage to be too costly to repair (go figure

) and we finally settled on it. Bought the car back because we didn't want to see it go in the yard, plus there's tons of good parts on it!

Basically everything is available except:
1. The center console shifter wood and ashtray- that's going in the '87
2. The black rubber mats seen in the photos- also going in the '87
3. I may be keeping the right side dash vent for the '87 as well.

Car has 273,xxx miles on it. Ran good (and still does) before wreck. Was smoking a little bit at start up before the accident then cleared up after a few minutes. It had a new battery put on it late last year (one of the battery cables is bad/loose) and most if not all the glow plugs had been replaced since he bought it (Summer 2010). The PO had the timing chain replaced at 184K. Transmission was okay, I think he said it would slip from time to time (can't recall which gear). Both engine and trans leaked a little oil/fluid.

Everything worked except the radio and cruise control. So all windows, sunroof, A/C, gauges, etc... worked fine from what I can recall.

Recent items done before accident (within 1 year):
-All 4 tires replaced with top of the line Michelins (Defenders I think)
-All 4 shocks were replaced with Bilsteins- literally maybe over the Summer I'd guess it was, maybe later
-The battery as I mentioned
-Had a good working blower motor put in
-Had a new fuel thermostat put in
-and probably a couple more items I can't recall right now...

Here's the deal...I don't have the ability or space to park this car at my house and part it out over the next several months. Therefore, I have it parked at my mechanics and he'll pull anything off that anybody wants. He lives 25 miles from me so I ask anyone interested in anything to please be patient if we work something out. He has offered to take pictures of any special requests and e-mail them to me so I can send to a perspective buyer.

We may also consider selling the car as it sits (minus the parts I'm keeping) and not mess with parting it out.

I took a bunch of photos of it on Thursday and put them on my photobucket account, see the link below. I couldn't get any of the motor at the time because the hood was stuck shut but I'm sure my mechanic will get some when he gets the hood up. Oh BTW, amazingly, there was no damage to either front fender!

EDIT 4/9/14: Main Engine parts are not available separately. The motor still runs good and will be sold as a complete unit.

Can't believe nobody is in need of some parts.

Here's a small list of sold items so far:

-Wheels/Tires
-Floor mats
-Front Euro tag
-Push button unit
-LH power seat switch

I have a few items pulled from it and on hand, mostly interior stuff but also:

-Turn signals
-Tail lights
-Instrument cluster
-Sun visors
-DS Knee bolster
-All 4 door sill plates
-DS heated mirror (side view)

If I had a way to transport the engine at reasonable cost I would consider that.

Sorry but this car has been gone since late summer last year. Didn't get any interest here so I put the whole car on eBay and someone from Michigan came and picked up the car.

If you happen to know whether those fixtures are any different from a W123 I have a pair of W123 fixtures laying around. I also have some W123 amplifiers laying around I'd like to get 'fixed'. I've been intending on PM'ing you about these but been waiting on having some spare money for this. How much do you charge to fix these?

Wow! I didn't even notice the dates on the post! The license plate light is W201/W124/W202 common part and not shared with the W123. Unfortunately.

As far as amplifiers go, I only charge $60 per amp. Drop me an email and we can talk more about it!

Gotcha! Sorry I couldn't be of help with the lights but I'll drop you an email regarding the amps I have..

Ha, yeah, we are too stupid to read through the posts when blinded by the thrill of the perfect parts right in your neck of the woods. It's kind of like that craigslist ad i saw for 1987 560 SL for 2500.00 .The map showed it literally in my back yard through the woods a 5 minute walk, I drive by the house every day at least twice. I replied to it and called the guy. It was just sold. The guy left the ad up though until it expired and it tortured me for a month as i was browsing for an sl. Still don't have one. But the r107 SL has got to be one of the best mercedes ever especially when you put a diesel in it. I did test drive one finally and it was super awesome. The solid feel of the w123. I still like the driving handling feel of a w123 almost better than any car I've driven. The gas mileage just stinks and its old tech. I'm getting my 1985 190D on the road. I think i'll like that.

Ok that was a really off topic rant. Helping you get this thread closed. Its late and i can't sleep. Can't owners of threads close them?
