Fellow forum members

I've had 2 forum members request parts; so, 1 wanting the glow plug wire harness from a OM617, from and including the connectors at relay, to the plugs, and to the firewall, cutting the wires at the firewall.
Another member, the drivers seat seatbelt assembly.
After parts were removed, they will not acknowledge any messages.
The price had been agreed upon before hand.
So, as a result, would you fellow forum members require a deposit before removing and packaging parts?
Or, is this just the way some people operate?
Hope this doesn't offend the moderators.

That's the way it goes, I had someone request the same glow plug harness, and I didn't cut it far enough back, be curious to know if its the same person, I never heard back from them.

Requesting deposits for parts in the used parts game will probably result in you selling next to nothing. Annoying, but I don't know anyone that successfully charges a deposit unless its something major like an engine.

When they are questionable, have them pay you, and then remove them.

And publicly blast them. Lol. But there's always the chance of family emergency, got busy with work, went to outer space, etc.

Yeah, thx for the input, but publicly blasting them is not my thing. DieselPaul, I'll send you a PM with the guys username, and compare if it is the same guy. I believe he has a OM617 powered jeep.

You gotta to expect that from folks.

Sometimes I pull parts for folks from my local wrecking yard. If we agree on price/labor, I almost always get a deposit before I go out.

Pulling parts from a parts car should be similar if you are up front with them about what will need to be done to harvest those parts.

.

The difference there is you are fronting money to pay for the parts at the yard.

I wouldn't ask you to pay for something for me without me giving you the money.

i keep vowing not to pull parts until i get $$ but i look at it this way: if it's something that is likely to sell at some point i will pull it; if it's a tough part to pull or a rarity that will likely sit around on the shelf once pulled i will wait until i get payment in hand before i touch a wrench.....this forum is great, for me it's craigslist that drives a person insane

I am new to this forum, but I have found that most people are understanding and will pay a deposit for the part.

I have been able to sell many parts and making progress of disposing of the collection of cars.

I made the mistake of loading my car to meet someone half way with parts....and they never showed up!!!!!!!!!!!!! So frustrating to drive home with a carload of parts barely being able to see out the windows.

Don't get me started on Craigslist and Kijiji (aka eBay classifieds).

10:30 p.m. on a Friday night in January: "Can I come pick it up right now?"

Uh, okay. Where are you coming from?

"(Replies with name of town 2 hrs drive away)"

You live you learn. Take the good with the bad. Not much choice if you are active.

My memorial one was a local individual asked me to pick up a few almost impossible things to find on my trip south. I figured there was no chance at all of finding a car wreck of that age and brand. I used to drop south a few times a year.

Yet there one was in the back corner of a wrecking yard I visited in central Alabama. . The parts cost me nothing. When I got home gave him a call. No pickup resulted and I was just going to pass them along at my cost of nothing basically. My regret in case like that was the loss of time to remove the parts. Just a total waste.
