WTB: Diesel sender unit aluminum cover
The oddest thing just happened. I was pulling my fuel level sending unit from my 1986 300SDL and the aluminum cover slid off and fell to the bottom of the diesel tank.
So now I either get to figure-out how to fish it out of the tank (seems nearly impossible) or buy a used cover (you guys). I need:
My sending unit actually works; I just need the cover. Everything that would fall off if you removed the bottom nut. PM me if you have this hardware and wish to sell it.

fuel sender unit
Quote:
its not too hard to refurbish, finicky to solder 46 AWG nichrome wire, you can buy enough for 125 sender repairs for $5 off ebay the nut is 3mm X .5mm thread pitch on mine the ground wire tab broke off. It attaches to one of the two exposed contacts at the bottom of the sender, that the float touches when fuel level is down that far, completes the ground to illuminate the dash reserve light that gets its "hot" at the instrument cluster Id say fish that tube out with a long tweezers, harbor freight has them, maybe a long piece of coathanger wire to get it within range |

If the W123 sender will fit and work , I have some that have been cleaned and tested for $60 each shipped anywhere in America .
FWIW , the same sender fits 240's and 300's in the W-123 chassis . I also have a *perfect* factory plastic W-123 Diesel fuel tank you can have for FREE , pickup in Los Angeles , no shipping .
