87 300SDL and 82 300SD parting out

Cars are located in St. Petersburg, FL. Please let me know what you're interested in. I also have a significant number of parts I bought along the way, so let me know what you might be interested in and I can let you know what I have, condition, etc. The 87 was running at the time but a palm tree got knocked over onto the hood and at minimum cracked the oil pan. The engine actually started up and ran after that, but I had already bought a new car and don't need another project.

The 82 has an engine installed (purchased from another Peach Parts member) but I was never able to get it to crank.

Like I said, lots of ancillary parts and if you live near the Tampa/St. Pete area, I can show you the cars and see what you might be interested in.

Pictures of the cars? Why are you parting the SDL?

I would love a set of amber fog light bulb covers. My driver side lens is broken, and I could stand to replace it. Also the power antenna would be good too. Do you have the sunroof and dome light unit?

Thanks

Ron

87 300SDL

In reply to several inquiries, I'll have to go take a look at the car and see what brand of calipers are in there. I presume that's for the 87?

The car is complete right now, so any part you need is there. In terms of the sunroof, I'd have to look and see how to remove that if it's something you want. I do have the power antenna and I'm sure I have the dome light. The car is kept at a garage about 10 miles from where I live. I should be there tomorrow and can take a look and see what answers I can get and also to take some pictures.

As to why I'm parting it out - I had already purchased a new truck as my daily driver and was keeping the SDL as a third car spare. We had a storm and a palm tree in our front yard fell over and landed on the hood, denting the hood and right front fender, as well as starting a crack in the windshield. I cranked the engine up after the palm tree was removed and it did start and idle. But then I saw a big oil stain on the driveway under it, so I suspect that the force of the palm tree coming down broke the oil pan underneath and caused the oil to drain out the bottom. I haven't popped the hood to see how it looks under there. I just had it towed to my other garage and it's been sitting there since then.

Instead of having the junk yard come and get it, I thought I'd see who here would be interested in parts. I make a little bit of money and people here can get some parts.

- Ted

Ted, I think what Hit Man X was getting at (correct me if I'm wrong) is that if the car still runs and drives most of us would rather see it sold to someone that can use/enjoy/fix it, than see it parted out. There weren't a whole lot of SDLs made so it is quite sad to see what sounds like a perfectly good one with minor damage leave the road.

I'll take some pictures this weekend and post.

The 87 was driving when the tree fell on it. I'll show the damage to the front end. I do have a new MB windshield for it if someone were to buy the car as well as a number of parts I've gotten from boneyards along the way. I believe I also have a MB rebuilt A/C compressor for it. I'd have to confirm, but I believe that's the case.

I'm certainly interested if anyone is looking to purchase the entire car. That would make my life easier!

At this point, I'm looking to simplify my life in this regard, so selling the car outright would be awesome. As well as being able to know the car is providing value to someone here.

Ted

If you get pictures up I bet we can find a buyer. Do you know how much you would be looking to get for the whole thing?

I might be interested in a gauge cluster. I have a 1985 300SD so not sure if either would swap over or not.

87 300SDL cluster will not swap with 85 300SD.

Ted, I am still waiting for your reply about the front brake calipers.

Thanks

Sorry all, I haven't been back over there in a few days. It's been cold and rainy here in Florida and I just haven't been able to get there. I should be able to get there this weekend.

82 SD cluster will not swap to 85 SD (cluster assy will swap, but speedo/tach is different. 85 speedo is electronic and the gear ratio is 2.88. Different from 82. Best to have your cluster repaired or look for one from a 85 SD
