Talking BE NICE !

(Honest, too !) .

I've been buying bits and bobs here, mostly used parts for my various old W-123's .

One guy stuck me good, selling me a worthless and worn out injector pop tester, he was shameless, I *may* have been foolish for buying this special and important tool used .

Another guy made me a killed deal on a pair of European Headlights, he decided to sweeten the deal as i was in transit to pick them up by polishing the pitted lenses ~ a nice gesture he didn't have to do .

I bought some of those IP pressure overflow valve springs and was well pleased plus the seller was polite .

One fellow sold me a junk steering wheel and when I queried said ' send it back and I'll refund your $ ' so i did and he only kept $5 for his effort, fair enough although I'da tossed/given away that wheel, never asked a dime for it .

A nice set of light alloy 14" disc wheels for a 240D, described as poor, I cleaned them up and polished the old original paint and decided not to powder coat them in the end ~ another guy who shaved a few $ off the deal and treated me very fairly .

Many others, almost all of whom have been honest and up front, often revealing super picky unimportant details that made no difference to the usability of the parts .

My point here is : if you're nice and helpful to others, generally it will come back to you many times over .

If you're a curbstoner or flipper of low cost Junk Yards parts for top Dollar, folks will spread the word plus you'll go through life knowing your an untrustworthy @$$hole .

FWIW, yes, I buy raggedy vehicles from curbstoners but only if they're up front with me ~ many more are than most realize .

Anyway, this isn't a rant, it's more a THANK YOU ! to the many good folks here who've helped me both with parts and helping m to keep learning and moving ahead .

Well there was the pay it forward thread a few years back. Seems to have gone out of favour at the moment though.

Thumbs up Attitude

Thanx Fellas .

In the main I have been treated very fairly here and I appreciate that and think the concept of ' Pay It forward ' is and always has been good .

No one here knows how I came up, let it suffice to say when I was young you really didn't want to meet me after dark when I was hungry and cold .

I realize no one here knows how the person on the far end of the Internet really is, sometimes it's tricky to be humorous or sarcastic and not make that obvious so I sometimes rub folks the wrong way, rarely my direct intention .

I always try to remember to say " THANK YOU " because it's important .

I expect to soon have another upbeat and helpful story to add here, one that will help you to make your old Mercedes Diesel run better as well as once again show that things go easier when we all push in the same direction .

Many here have stunningly beautiful cars that are loved and pampered ~ I have one (European TD with low miles for SWMBO) that I only touch when it needs servicing, my others are saved from the crusher high mileage daily drives I tend to run pretty close to as fast and hard as they'll go at any given moment because I'm a Journeyman mechanic who truly believes one should USE whatever vehicle they think is cool .

Few ever give them a look when I'm at the meets & greets, cars & coffee etc. but those who go on the many road rallies with me often comment that all the ever see is the taillight receding rapidly .
