OM603.971 Engine Parts

I'm not too sure if there would be any interest in any engine parts from an OM603.971, the infamous rod bender engine. I have completely dismantled the engine, all the way down to the piston oilers. I am installing an OM603.961 into a '93 w140. I am keeping the Turbo, the injection pump, and the oil pan. As far as I know I won't need much else.

Again, im not sure if any of these parts will be worth anything to anyone, but I plan to get rid of them some way 🤔. Thanks!

I need some opinions on what to do with my 300SDL car with OM603.961 engine. The crank shaft snapped.

I have a few options. btw, the car is in good shape, no rust, paint is good. tranny is good. It will cruise all day at 80mph before the crank shaft snapped.

1) Junk the car but harvest some parts for my other SDL.
2) Swap an engine or lower block.
3) Swap the crank only.
4) Get another SDL with a crappy tranny and swap in mine, then junk the old car.

So my questions are: Is the crank in OM603.961 same as the OM603.971? Is it in good shape and on the shelf now? How easy it is to just replace the crank, the crank alone? I would not mind taking the crank if the crank can be shipped cheaply. I am just looking at my options, the car has been sitting for a while.

What do you guys think?

???

Hopefully someone will chime in. I don't know what to tell you. If it will work then you can make an offer. I'm not attached to it. It's a chunk of metal though.

In short, do you have the crank shaft?

I'd think the gasser high performance guys would be after that, since it turns the 3.2 into a 3.6.

If the cam is in good shape I'd think you could sell it, or keep it with the head (is it a #18?) and keep it as a spare for your 3l

How much for the exhaust manifold?

Does anybody know how much it would cost to send it about 2,800 miles?

Actually, it still only makes a 2.8/3.2 into a 3.5 liter. To reach 3.6 liters additional boring is necessary too.

Exhaust Manifold

It's attached to the Turbo and I'll be using it for the swap. Sorry.

The sooner the better

The scrap yard is a mile and a half from my house. I'd probably be better off just taking the pile there rather than boxing and shipping, but the forum has been good to me so I thought I'd offer here first. I don't expect to get rich from selling these parts, but I also don't want to be running back and forth to the UPS store constantly. I'll see how things go. I need the room.

Gone: vacuum pump, injectors

PM me to ask if your desired part is available.

What is the head number?

If we ask here instead of PMing, your ad will keep getting bumped to the top of the page------ That's a good thing.

Cylinder Head

It's a #18, if I remember correctly. It's completely disassembled. It's very pitted. It needs a complete rebuild. I may keep it as a spare, have it rebuilt later. It depends on how badly someone wants it.

I have a #22 head that has been completely rebuilt. I just need to go pick it up. It was left at a shop by a customer over 5 years ago. The shop has tried to locate him to no avail. I paid $300 for it. I just haven't had time to go get it.

Well, wwii asked first. I'd like to know if he doesn't get it though, and also how your plans for it evolve.

You'd better go get that #22 head before that shop does to you what they did to that head's previous owner.

Even at that, shorter connecting rods or pistons with the pin hole moved up are required to make this work.

Yes, very true.

It wasn't my intention to list all of the mods necessary to build such an engine, I only wanted to clarify the displacement issue.
