Has there been a LSD differential for a W124? Closest thing I can think of is a ASD differential which is hydraulically controlled. Not sure there was a LSD differential made, but not sure.

Clear on the other side of the country.

I have a 3.07 ASD in a 92 4-M but I still haven't decided what I'm going to do with the car. I had dreams of making it into a beast like duxthe1 has done but right off the bat the tranfer case is swapping trans fluid with hydraulic fluid and there doesn't seem to be an easy fix for that which has really taken the wind out of my sails so to speak.

I'm pretty sure you are correct but an ASD diff will do as you can see here: http://www.w124performance.com/images/W124_diffs/ASD_Differential_Retrofit.pdf

This looks like it isn't gonna happen. Finding a 16V 190 2.3 LSD is going to be impossible. Installing a W124 ASD diff requires new axle shafts. Not interested in that either. Oh well, thanks for all the good info.

An open diff and slow, heavy steering and 2nd gear start are the only things I don't like about my 300E. Everything else, l love. Oh well. Thanks again

There are aftermarket options. I have a quaife lsd in my 88 300CE and there's also a wavetrac available. You need to get the largerger diff from a later W124 to fit it. It's not really expensive to get the whole subframe and axles from a donor or a used parts place.

I have found that those quiafe LSD units do seem appealing - right up to the point when you find out how much they cost!

The 16V 190E LSD is a 3.27 ratio. The stock 3.07s are already too low (high numerically) unless we have an overdrive. (Our automatics don't.)

You need my 92 300E! It's smaller steering wheel effectivly quickens the steering ratio, and it has first gear start too! (No LSD though.) It also has the lower first gear ratio of 3.87 vs. your 3.68 ratio. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/mercedes-cars-sale/382111-92-300e-sale-only-110-000-miles.html

I have a 92 300E 4-matic that I'd be happy to sell the 3.07 ASD diff and driveshafts off of. I'm about 7 hours from Boston but I have a friend that frequently drives to Albany. Or could ship.

I have a ASD at full lock from E300 IIRC. Was ~400 with axles, seems quite reasonable.

So that would be from a E300D correct? If so that would be a 2.87 ratio. I wonder what shipping to Cali would be. Tilac1, are you still out?

Winmutt, if the shipping cost is too brutal, do you have some wiggle room on the price?

Funny, I came here thinking to sell my ASD, and now instead find myself wanting your ASD! An ASD would be sweet in one of my diesel cars, but 3.07s are too low. Actually, 2.87s are too low too (stock ratio is 2.65) but at least there're not as low as 3.07s.

Aren't you the guy I bought some struts from a few years ago?
