The head has the valves, springs, retainers, and valve stem locks. Everything else had been removed. I bought this as a spare for my 85 300sd. Which I sold about 3 weeks ago. The head came off a 84 300sd that looked like it had been well taken care of. The car had 212 thousand miles and looked very nice. I went to albuquerque to get the head. I live in Pueblo Colorado. I owned my 85 for 8 year.
I would replace the guides and do a valve job. Also check the mating surface to make sure it's flat to within .002.
I will say that in the past it was easy to find these cars in a junk yard. Now not so much.
