OM617 Engine and Transmission - Out of 1979 300D - $250 OBO - Seattle

price drop $200

DISCLAIMER: SORRY I RAMBLE A LOOOOT HAHA AND OFTEN PUT WAY TOO MUCH INFO THAN NECESSARY SO FOR THAT IM SORRY, I JUST WANT EVERYONE TO UNDERSTAND THE STORY AND GET AS MUCH INFO AS POSSIBLE. SO IM SORRY FOR ALL THE RAMBLING IN ADVANCE HAHAHA. SCROLL TO BOTTOM TO GET STRAIGHT TO BUSINESS

Ok so some of u that have bought parts from me before know the story of my little barn find of a beautiful 90k original mile '79 300D And a pallet full of unopened still in box genuine Mercedes Benz Parts from the 1980s.

Well this is the last little thing I have left from that deal, besides the 90k red w123... (which I'm planning to put up for sale soon, pics attached, pm if interested)

This is a OM617 non turbo engine from a 1979 300D. My seller bought it originally to swap into his Studebaker but soon after he encountered some major health problem, which lead to his left leg being amputated. So the swap never happened and the engine (along with his '79 and the pallet for of NIB MBZ parts) sat in his shop for 20 years... until I came alone this past summer.

I was told this engine was originally pulled in 1995 from a car that only had 57k miles on it. The car was totalled in a bad rear end accident in the 80s, sat for awhile, and then the owner got bored of looking at it finally, sold the engine and tranny and junked the rest of the car.

I'm sorry there is no paperwork or proof of this stoty, the milage, or the running condition of the engine.

Although, every top end gasket I've inspected has been genuine Mercedes Benz, all the fuel filters are genuine Mercedes Benz, and the injectors didn't have the "burned ring" on the tips of the nozzles. All of this kind of points in the direction of the vehicle still being I'm the process of the pre 100k miles Mercedes Benz dealership 10k inspections.

Although, the amount of oil soot on the engine doesn't exactly add up for a well maintained 57k MBZ engine so I'm not too confident on believing the story, but who knows, 57k is about 10 years of driving (for a luxury weekend car) so that oil soot really could be possible in that time. We all know om617's are dirty oily engines haha.

Buy really literally everything else he told me and sold me ended up being confirmed true. In both age, authenticity, quality, milage, etc etc etc. But yes this is the one thing that he could have been lied to about by the guy who sold it to him.

I'm not trying to discourage you guys or anything just being 100% transparent. Either way you have well over $250 in bolt on parts, injection pump, oil filter/oil cooler set up and housing, complete transmission. Basically a crap ton of good stuff.

I just don't need this engine, tranny, or parts, I already have 2 of everything om617 and this is taking up space at my bosses shop. So I just want it gone and too a good home.

Ok as follows in the info on the actually sale of this engine, not just me rambling on about the story of the engine

I would say the tranny is usable and the engine would be more of a parts engine put u decide after u get it fired up.

It's complete minus, the starter bolt-on, the intake/exhaust manifold bolt-on, and some of the top-end linkage.

I stole the injectors off the engine and had them Greazzered (which I am keeping, sorry) although I do have an extra set of non turbo spec non rebuilt injectors I'd throw in for $40 more but I'd honestly rather keep those too. I imagine most of us on here have extra injectors.

I don't know the exact part/model number of the tranny and the engine but like I said it's from the 1979 non turbo 300d. So it's a COMPLETLY MECHANICAL transmission, no vacuum to tranny to hell with shift points, it's controlled by the shift linkage and Bowden rod. It has the adjustable mechanical modulator aswell

This is in Lake Stevens, Washington which is about a half hour drive North on I-5 from Seattle. I have a cherry picker engine hoist on location as we as all the rigging needed to plop in in your truck or trailer .

PRICE: $250 OBO for the engine and the transmisson package (plus $40 if u want my extra set of injectors)

Sorry my boss took these pictures and didn't really get a full shot of the attached tranny but it's looks just like u would expect it to look. I can have him take another pic if your a serious buyer. The number that is pictured in the 4th picture is embossed on the transmission
