parting out a car... advice

Looking to part out a car and looking for advice. I've never done it before. I'm parting out one of my w124s. I'm trying to sell things as fast as possible. I was thinking of listing everything on ebay and here, but taking the priority over to ebay since it would be most logical since it seems like it would sell fastest there.

What sells the fastest? I'm keeping the engine and drivetrain but anticipate I'd be able to sell most stuff off the car and at least make 1500. is that a reasonable expectation? ALl the body panels are rust free and interior is in good shape with the exception of the front seats.

I’ve parted out a couple of 124 and 126 cars. You may be a little aggressive at $1500 in total sales.
The challenge is, there are a lot of 124 cars still around all across the country. With that said, there are a lot of marginal to poor cars, with only a few that justify investments in cosmetic parts. That equates to; large supply, small demand, and drives prices down.
Shipping is expensive, and makes long distance sale of larger parts impractical, as they can usually be found locally. I would suggest Craigslist and this forum for the larger items, and local buyers.
IMHO, good Ebay items are;
Sun Visors, gauge cluster, seat switches, CCU, window regulators, lock set (ignition, doors, trunk with keys), side view mirrors, marker lights, headlights, tail lights, rear view mirror, trim wood, ECM, wiper motor, HVAC fan, radio, ashtray. If all that stuff is in great shape, and only if it’s in great shape, it will sell eventually. I would say all that stuff at ebay prices would have net profit to you between $400 and $500.
Lots of work packing, shipping, answering questions. Visit your local big box hardware store in the morning when they’re stocking the shelves and score some free cartons and packing material. Check craigslist for free packing peanuts and bubble wrap; sometimes guys are just looking to get rid of it.
As for the big stuff, unless you get lucky, I’d be prepared to have the shell of the car around for a while. Wear parts like wheel bearings, calipers, axels, are a tough sell.
All the stuff is worth something to the right guy, at the right time. My 2 cents. Good luck, hope you make a bunch.

I've thought about parting a car out myself, not so much for the profit but so I can call it a business and use it as a tax shelter. I would think if the interior is a rare color (red, blue) your profit potential would be a lot higher. Not sure I'd bother trying to part an interior on the palomino/mushroom/parchment palette because the market seems to be saturated.

Lol yup. It's amazing what a mechanic can miss with that "bad" injection pump that he told the girl. Fuel filters, biocide treatment, tank screen cleaned and blow out the lines and its doing a 100 no problem. Shame it's so rough, it runs Damn good!
