Some M120 parts
I picked up a dead M120 because it was there and I was curious. Apparently it was purchased used at 80k for 600SL. The shop installed it and didn't notice the cats were bad. Whoops. Motor overheated the rings pretty fast. The block is chewed up pretty bad as are the pistons. I didn't check the rods more than superficially, but everything still turned nicely by hand, so the rods should all be good.
I had my machinist, a veteran Benz specialist review the heads. There is a little bit of material (bits of ring?) embedded in one cylinder of each head, but the level of warp is minimal. He came up with 0.003" and 0.007". That means one doesn't even need milling to reuse it. I also have the driver's side cams with the followers marked. Intake & Exhaust manifold and a few odd bolt-on parts like the hydraulic pump and alternator. The oil pan is intact. The crank however, one journal is just a little sad looking. Given the particular motor, my machinist said it would be best to polish it, but only if you can actually find over-sized bearings for it. So, anybody need some M120 spares? I'm an M100 guy, this thing is cool, but not my kind of pain. -CTH |

Maybe contact Victor at restoreyourmercedes.com
He is a M120 expert and might be interested in some stuff. I think he's in the Bronx so shipping wouldn't be an issue.
