W124 Front Storage Compartment
I am looking for a blue storage compartment with walnut lid that sits in the tray between seats and was an option in 300E/CE's that had a front passenger air bag.

Potomac Pat is a participant on this site, and he works at a Mercedes Benz recycling yard in Maryland.
He might have one for you and be able to ship it to you: www.mbpartsonline.com You might also try: www.silverstarrecycling.com

You can buy one new for roughly $250 or so... used ones are a little hard to locate.

This box came standard on all 1993-1995 W124's, and I think it was an option in 1992 on any W124. I am sure MB included this storage compartment in 1993 to replace the glove box that was lost to the passenger side airbag.

Ken,
Yes it will fit. However all Cabrios should already have this. Suginami is correct, it was to replace the missing glove box due to the passenger airbag. Any car with the passenger airbag should have this box, which means all 93-95 124 chassis, and some 92 (optional). |

The one in my car was not in great shape , that is why I am interested in the box from the 500e. I believe the wood would be a correct match as well versus a reg 124 body. I still have not gotten any response as to what shape it is in, how much is wanted etc. In the meantime, I purchased the oem carpet that was used on previous years and am actully getting to like the extra space.

You can buy the wood and top colored part separately. The wood is pricey, something like $150-$200 I think. The colored part (which can get stained or ripped) is only about $60 though. No need to replace the whole thing... but the carpet insert is only $8!

My thoughts exactly and it actually is a bit more functional. The roll top boxes can be tough to get stuff in and out of.

Exactly. I actually replaced the box in my 1993 W124 because the vinyl material had peeled back. It was around $50-$60, which ain't bad.
I just transferred over the slidng wood door and lock. However, the 500E's have burlwood and the E320's have Zebrano, so the wood would not be a good match. I would just buy a new box and install it w/o the lid. You really don't need it anyway. It also serves as a terrific cup holder.

the cabs have burlwood also. The car looks like any other 300e now, but if I could get a nice box I would buy it just to have it.
