ItalianBenz only has problem on the clearence of the brake line. I beleive there must be some adaptor to solve this problem. Mercedes or AMG may not have those adaptor. However, amoung tons of aftermarket fittings out there, I should be able to find one can make it work. As I mention earlier, my concern is on the weight. I know the C32 caliper is using cast iron, not aluminum. Together with a rotor that is both bigger in diameter and thicker in thickness, both the sprung and unsprung weight are increased. May be to a point that will affect the handling of the car because those weight are right on the wheel not some place else. At least understeering of the car will increase. The 500E already has understeering build in to it when it came out of the factory. Also, since I have a bigger tire in the rear, the understeer is very obvious. By changing to a heavier brake system, the understeer may be even worst. That's why I want to find out about the weight of the rotor and caliper first before I make my move.

Harry,

I think that you are confusing moutning C32 brakes on a C36 vs mounting C32 brakes on a 124.036 car.

J Irwan Vs. ItalianBenz

ItalianBenz tried putting C32 brakes on his 124.036 car but the caliper mounting "ears" hit the steering knuckle. There are some very detailed photos here on mercedesshop

Please read his explaination and the picture again. The white arrow points to is the brake line fitting not the mounting ear of the caliper.

Harry,

My statement was incorrect, however you are still under the wrong impression.

Where the brake line goes into the C32 brakes, hits the steering knuckle arm. Maybe if you used a 90 degree fitting or something.

I have not looked up close and personal with the C32 brakes, so I am not sure, if I saw them personally perhaps I could give you some better information. Maybe you should email italian benz and see what he thinks.

Austin

The picture is very clear that the arrow is pointing to the fitting because there is cover to cover the fitting.

If you want the least un-sprung weight from a brake-upgrade, I'd lookin into Wilwoods's Dynalight III's(4.4-lbs. calipers vs. 13+ lbs for 600SL calipers), or the StopTech calipers (don't know for sure if they are light).

Forged aluminum wheels from FISKE would be next.

Big Brakes !
