Not sure if you'll find a BMW and Mercedes expert under one roof around here.
Whereabouts are you?
I live near Bath about 15 minutes north of Allentown...
Neil is good in that he will install parts I buy from Partsshop on this website.
Knopf does charge big $$$$; they recently wanted $1100 for an alternator (!)
Phil found me a rebuilt for about $189 if I recall; took it to Knopf and they installed it.
Nice thing with Knopf is they have free loaners for service work; they are new Audi A4's

Robert,
I live close to route 100 and tilghman intersection.
When you say Neil above, I presume you mean Neil at Star Service Center? Who is Phil that found you the used MB part? And will Knopf actually install the parts that you bring to them? I thought that they would refuse to do that.
Thanks

Yes both Neil at Star Service Center and Knopf have actually installed parts I purchased from Phil at Partsshop.
Both will say there is no labor warranty for them to replace the parts I bring them if the part would fail etc.
I bought a rebuilt Bosch alternator from Phil on this website, not used. This saved me at least $800 vs. a new one from the dealer's parts dept...

Don't go to Cottman in Paoli

Phil seems like a nice guy but I'm sorry I can't go along with this recommendation. It's totally a corporate chain shop - the kid he has as the manager acts like that and will try to f*** with you, trying to charge an arm and a leg then jerking you around about getting your car back.

OK work but lose the price and the condescending attitude (get rid of Brian).

You're better off going somewhere else.

Like a nice non-franchise shop with an honest mechanic who doesn't talk to you like he's reading a telemarketing script.

Stay away from national chains!

Question Update on Philadelphia Shops?

Hi all- Just bought my first MB- 1977 280SE- and need a few things done, like flushing the brake lines and adjusting the valves, charging the AC, etc.

I live in Center City Philadelphia. I've seen many online recommendations for Overseas Motor Works in Philadelphia but learned today they no longer handle cars from the 70's.

Anybody have any recommendations for Philly? Hopefully in the city itself?

THANKS!

if you can manage the drive up to Hatboro, it's worth the drive out of center city to try DMC automotive (think that was the name- owner's name is Dom). Best mechanic i found in the philly area when i lived there, merc-trained and honest & friendly... and quick.

Also you might want to try Neil at Star Service Center in East Allentown

Star Service Center
738 North Graham Street
Allentown, PA 18109
phone: (610) 437-3374

He's done good work on my 1977 300D, 1983 and 1984 300SD's, and my 1991 300TE wagon over the past 8 years or so.
He gets lots of cars so if it's major you might have to wait a day or more until he can get to it with parts and stuff. He has been the cheapest for suspension work cross shopping a couple other shops. Much cheaper than the local MBZ dealer.
