R-C Imports Rick

Based on these recommendations I took my e320 coupe to him for a service. He did a great job...I thought ....the car started hesitating, jerking around and just plain run terribly.
Called him up and he is blaming the tranny etc. He is very cocky and arrogant....
Did some research on this site and it is more than likely to be the boot ends of the plugs. Now I am actually doubting if he used the correct spark plugs at all. I am caught in two minds whether to take it back to him or use someone new...Just hate time wasting.
As a great mechanic, he should show more love for his craftsmanship, like the old days...make sure everything is checked especially since he should know that those connector tips can easily go wrong and cause this problem!!!

I've been going to Rick's shop for years and know what you mean by "cockey and arrogant". I kind of consider him the "Soup Nazi" of mechanics-- knows his stuff, but the delivery can be a bit on the rough side.

Rick is very knowlegeable of his craft, but I've found also that things sometimes aren't checked completely before I pick the car up. I don't think that's so much Rick, as his employee Theraz. Both really know these cars, but Theraz isn't quite as thorough in checking behing himself.

There are other very good shops in the area, I use Rick's because he knows my cars inside out.

Glad to see that someone else feels the same...like you I will consider taken it back to him but just hate the arrogant stance.
Looking for another good shop in the silver spring area...I will post if I find one.

Thank's so much for informing us about the attitude at RC Imports - there are few things I hate more in a person than cockiness, especially when its directed at me.

If it is possible to take your cars out to Falls Church, VA, a lot of people recommend Silver Star Motors. I took my 300CE there a couple weeks ago for a new rear wheel bearing and state inspection, and I felt they were very nice, professional people. They did a great job, charged me almost exactly what the quoted me before they even saw the car, dropped me off at the Metro, and paid for my cab fare back. That's pretty good service.

I also like the fact that the owner is actually from Germany!

Thanks..I work in Falls Church and will look them up.
I bought all the parts needed...opened the engine and realized my lack of confidence to do it myself....
I will see if I can drop it in on Monday..thanks again

Comparison (RC vs Silver Star)

Used both RC and Silver Star for repair work.

Each has it's pros and cons. The biggest con in my experience is at Silver Star, where I went in recommending my head gasket was blown (due to the excellent feedback on this forum). However I was quoted and accepted the costs in repairing the head gasket, only to come back a day later and was told it was something totally different, at the same cost to repair.

Two days later, the blown head gasket symptoms did not go away, to which I was told by Silver Star "tough", and it will cost you another $1200 to fix.

Went back to RC and got the thing repaired way below Silver Star's cost, and got it back the same day.

I have used Mitch Carr in Kensington MD. numerious times. Very satisfied, but not being able to get a car to use during down time has always been a major issue. So now I go to ASC in Arlington with everything addressed by Service Manager Ted Wessler. All discounts for parts and labor are covered and a loaner car at no charge. I still do the basics.

Skinkman,
Since you're in Falls Church, you could also check out the repair shop on Route 29 just south of where it meets I-66. I forget the name, but it has the owner's name, Don in the title. I've heard very good things about his shop. One thing about him I've heard is that he hates to have his honesty questioned. Shouldn't be an issue, as his shop is known to be a good honest shop.

Guys..thanks for the replies.
I spoke to someone a work who recommended Yorkettown Shell because one of the mechanics is a 300 series enthusiast. Drove it over and got it fixed in an hour...my car is running like a dream. next project will be to do some tranny work in the summer.
His name is Mustapha...very competent and knows the cars...and is humble enough to listen.

I really like Don Pool's operation. I would encourage you all to check them out. In Falls Church, they're at the intersection of VA-29 and I-66.

I've been a customer for several years and really can not say enough good things about them. All they guys just ooze confidence but in a very friendly way. Their shop is spotless and the guys are all professionals. Chuck is especially pleasant to work with.

To me visiting their shop is like visiting a Mercedes museum full of beautifully maintained pieces of art.

I am back and forth between California and Washington DC and most of my cars are in California but I was rear ended in Tyson's Corner and used a friend's body shop in Arlington, VA. They are called T&J Auto Body and are right near the clarendon metro (helpful to be near a metro when you will be without a car for a few days and don't want to pay for a rental car to get to work). Anyway, my buddy recommended them, I got 10% off the total and they were great. Perfect work (and I am VERY VERY picky) and the estimate was like $350 less (without my discount) than the two other places I got estimates from. I suspect the other places were trying to rip me off by telling me I had to replace these two pieces when they only needed to be repaired. Lucky these guys in Arlington are honest, I highly recommend them. Hope this helps.

good shop in Washington DC area (Manassas VA)

fantastic discovery of independent mechanic - Luxus Mercedes at 9065 Liberia Ave, Manassas VA, 703-361-0666. Has been in business many years, OUTSTANDING craftsmanship, only works on MB, and best of all, very fair prices. I was referred to him by a SL450 driver, and now I won't go anywhere else. Last shop in the business mall next to Home Depot; ask for Iraj. May be a long way for some in the DC area but absolutely worth it.
