Washington D.C.

In Vienna, VA (about 12 miles west of DC)

Silver Star Motors
301 W. Mill Street
(703) 281-5606

Run by Peter Fuchs, former tech at American Service Center (dealer). Extremely competent, honest, and fair.

In Falls Church, a lot of people like Don Pool Mercedes. Lots of 123's and older.

If you need a dealer shop, I think that the fairest in the area is American Service Center on Glebe Road in Arlington. They are by the book and expensive, but have always delivered on time for me. Good parts department.

Dealt with American Service Center about 4 years ago. Took my car to an MB dealer in Briggs Chaney, MD for some body work (front fender collision). After a little deception on thier part (did a lousy job, and stuck on the pin striping), and agressiveness on my part, go my money back. Then took my car to American Service Center, and was completely satisfied when I picked up my car. Also had thier service department complete a thorough check of my 88 300E. Was given a list of concerns which did not match my previous dealers list (PEPE motors, White Plains, NY). Got a second opinion, and American Service Center was on the money (saving me on repair costs).
*** Need to schedule far in advance.

Thanks for the info on Silver Star. I checked them out and their prices seem to be quite reasonable; so, I'll probably give them a try. I, too, have heard good things about Don Pool in Falls Church.

Happy Motoring!

I mentioned Don Pool because he has a reputation of real expertise with the older cars, good work, and fair prices. If you deal with him, however, do not repeat do not appear to be solution- or price-shopping. He is fanatic about trust and he has more business than he can handle. Tell him your problem and trust him to fix it.

I personally got off on the wrong foot with him and we agreed that we could not do business. But that was me, and he has a lot of satisfied customers and his shop sometimes looks like a vintage Mercedes show!

I have been very satisfied with my work done by Rick Ellinger, R.C. Imports, Rockville, MD 301-762-4205.

In Annapolis I recommend Chesapeake Imports. They are extremely fair and competent. I like them better than the local dealer or Silver Star.

They are at 1717 McGuckian

Anyone know of any good shops in the DC area? Preferably in the northern VA area.

toms 11-22-2000 09:07 AM

Further down in this section you will see posts for DC shops. Here is a copy of one. Note that my 280sl (71) is currently at Silver Star Motors and I have been very pleased with their work.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that there was some info at the bottom of the postings.

Thanks again.

Thanks very much for posting this. As a relatively new resident of NoVA, this will be helpful!

I'll second the earlier recommendation for Silver Star in Vienna. Peter, the owner/manager, is an extremely capable Mercedes master mechanic. They do excellent work.

Good Shops In DC / No. VA Area

I have Been taking my car, 89 300SE with 156k miles, to "Laslo Foreign Car Service" for the past 4 years (since I have had this car). They came highly recommended to me, to begin with, and I have been very pleased with them.

They are competent, reliable, reasonably priced and honest. Laslo, himself, is Austrian trained (he has the right accent for working on an MB), and he has got a couple of very good mechanics working for him. Their shop is located in Woodbridge, VA, and their phone number is 703-690-6514 or 703-491-7545.

Try them out and let me know what you think. I am sure you will be pleased. Usual disclaimer, I have no affiliation with them, just a satisfied customer!

Since my vehicle is still under the mb warranty, i'm taking it to one of the dealerships in the area. I bought mine at ASC in Arlington. I did schedule my FSS A with Euromotorcars in Bethesda. It's a long ways (approx 30 mi one way) from where I live considering that HBL in Tyson's is the most convenient dealer but a lot of people have persuaded me to try Euromotorcars. Any suggestions? They also told me that the loaners are mostly MBz.

rpalens 05-20-2001 07:09 PM

Do NOT take your car to HBL! I took mine there for an oil change and to have a chipped windshield repairs. Although the oil change was done (I belive) the windshield was not repaired AND everything in the car was stolen (who would have wanted some of that stuff is beyond me). Fortunately, the car was not vandalized (one of the things taken was a Swiss Army knife). HBL agreed to repay me for the stolen items without any hassle, but it totally destroyed my confidence that HBL has adequate security procedures. Elsewhere, I read that one fellow has had his car stolen from HBL twice!!!

I've read here and elsewhere that ASC is probably one of the better dealerships for service; so, that's where I'm going for the 60,000 service.

As for independents, Silver Star in Vienna and Don Poole in Falls Church are highly rated.

Happy Motoring!
