'98 ML320 stalls when cold

It starts ok, but stalls when put into gear when cold. The longer you let the engine warm up, the less of a problem it is. Sounds like a classic fuel enrichment issue to me, any suggestions on the cause?
It has 75K on it, the MAF has ~30K on it, new battery, no engine light, everything else seems ok. It's my mothers car now, so this isn't first hand info, but it was mine up until a few weeks ago and it worked fine then.
She says it's about 50 degrees in the AM when she's having the problem.

Thanks.....

Cool

Sounds like carbon build-up on the throttle butterfly/housing. Cleaning with a scotch-brite pad & air intake cleaner would be my first effort in correcting that problem.

Carbon build-up on a port injected car? Hmmm, I looked at the blade on my car a few months ago (65Kmiles) it was very clean, I guess I'll check the ML next chance I get. The problem appeared suddenly so I was thinking it would be something electronic. The ML is 3 hours away and nowhere near a dealer, so when I go look at it I want as much info as possible.
Thanks...

On a normal vehicle your hunch would be right, C, but MB had a funny little habit of recirculating PCV air in above the butterfly valve in the 90's, providing another method of carboning for those normally shiny throttle valves...
