fuel pump electrical connector

my fuel pump died catastrophically. 150 miles from home, of course. on fathers day! at my Dads house!! he is 76, and had to help me AGAIN!! (towed me back to his house). VERY inconvenient and embarrassing! I'm the only one in the family who drives a Benz, and now everybody is snickering behind my back i'm sure.

Anyway, I fixed it yesterday with a new pump and filter. the wiring inside the pump on the negative lead of the motor at the connector was FRIED for the first inch or so. melted the nylon on the connector, insulation very black and crispy for about 1".

I am wondering if it is prudent to repair or replace the female connector on the top of the pump. it doesnt LOOK fried or over-heated, but the spring thingy inside looked 'tired'. or has the short wiring harness been updated?

its a 2000 ML-430.

thanks

great forum
